Transcript [00:00] for the honor of your time. Uh we have [00:03] uh a pretty big week here I at King of [00:06] Kings and it's not just King of Kings [00:08] Jerusalem. And it's not just the King of [00:10] Kings network all over Israel. It's [00:12] actually a bodywide unity week because [00:16] we are having a uh a worship and arts [00:19] expo that we get the honor of hosting [00:21] here at King of Kings. So a lot of our [00:23] team is doing extra preparation. I know [00:25] the worship team is doing it. our [00:26] artists. We've got some chefs coming in [00:28] to help out with that as well. Sound [00:30] engineers, um, uh, media people are [00:33] coming in. It is going to be an amazing [00:35] time to build B body unity all over the [00:38] country. About 350 people are coming in. [00:41] So, we'll keep you posted. If you're an [00:42] intercessor, we're asking you to cover [00:45] us in prayer. Especially cover Melissa [00:48] in prayer as she's the kind of the [00:50] steering person uh, steering and putting [00:53] all this together. So, bless her. But [00:55] that that uh the Boa Expo is going to [00:58] unite not just congregants and worship [01:01] leaders, songwriters, but even a lot of [01:03] the worship teams that you guys know. Of [01:05] course, you know, King of Kings worship, [01:07] but you might also know uh Mikedim or [01:10] Solu or uh or even Ma and other people [01:15] Sarah Lieberman, Joshua Aaron, etc. A [01:17] lot of team members are coming together. [01:20] Please, if you're a intercessor for King [01:22] of Kings, pray for our expo this [01:26] Wednesday and Thursday. We thank you so [01:28] much for doing that. Listen, um, we are [01:31] excited that I have got one of my dear [01:33] friends and a great guest with us today [01:35] here in the studio. Let me introduce you [01:37] to Martin Mallerie. Martin, welcome. [01:39] Good to be here. [01:39] >> Glad to have you in the studio today. [01:41] >> Good to be here. [01:42] >> Let me give a little introduction just [01:44] so our folks uh can can connect with [01:46] you. Um you first of all you've been a [01:48] friend of King of Kings for a very long [01:51] time and um you have served with us in a [01:56] couple of different ways. Number one, [01:58] you've really been a what I call a [01:59] liaison, an ambassador if you will for [02:03] King of Kings around the world. Um that [02:06] means you you tell people who we are, [02:08] what we do. You you make connections and [02:11] relationship bridges, you make [02:12] referrals, bring trips and groups, and [02:14] you you you just make all those [02:15] connections for us. So, we're so [02:17] grateful. Thank you for doing that and [02:18] having a heart um to be part of our [02:20] team. Uh we've always been grateful for [02:22] that. Um going a layer deeper, you and [02:27] and we're going to get to this in some [02:28] of your background. Uh but you serve [02:30] with Anchor of Hope Counseling Center [02:32] with Dr. Katherine Snder and and our [02:34] growth there. And I know we're going to [02:36] get to some deeper things about how you [02:39] do that. [02:40] >> But let's start as simple as we can. [02:43] Your life is complicated. It [02:44] >> is complicated. It is complicated. [02:46] [laughter] Um, but let's start as simple [02:47] as we can. You and your your dear wife [02:50] Sharon, you base out of Kentucky. [02:52] >> I do. [02:53] >> Okay. [02:54] >> So, um, you're in Kentucky, but you are [02:58] a professor, [03:00] >> a a a a teacher and professor at Asbury [03:04] Seminary. That's one of your components. [03:06] >> Yes. Uh, and I use that one to start [03:08] because I think our audience would be [03:10] somewhat familiar with Asberry, [03:12] >> but why don't you start adding all of [03:14] the other layers of how complicated your [03:16] life is. Now, I'm also warning our [03:18] audience. Martin does some incredible [03:20] work that's sensitive and there's some [03:22] security um risks and and and issues. [03:25] And so, Martin, just avoid those topics. [03:29] Absolutely. Listen, we live in Israel. [03:30] We know what that's like. I know. [03:31] >> So, why don't you fill in the gaps? [03:33] you're working, you know, as an [03:34] ambassador for us at King of Kings [03:36] around the world. You're you're a [03:37] professor at Asbury, but you're a [03:40] professional counselor. That's your main [03:42] career. Take us from there. [03:43] >> Yeah, I've been this is my I think I'm [03:45] starting my 33rd year as a therapist now [03:47] and uh have been it's been a great [03:49] career because I live in Wilmore, [03:51] Kentucky, the world comes there to [03:53] study. So, over all the years that I've [03:55] been in that town, uh you know, I've [03:56] made a lot of friends all over the [03:58] world. uh probably how I got connected [03:59] to Israel actually if I roll back time a [04:02] little bit. Uh I enjoy teaching there in [04:04] the counseling department. I'm an [04:05] affiliate professor which means they [04:07] call me when they need me to fill in a [04:08] class here and there but uh it keeps my [04:11] my teaching skills I think uh really [04:13] tight. I think when I'm teaching uh a [04:15] seminary class I'm better at everything [04:16] else in my in my life. Um I started [04:19] working with international workers uh a [04:21] number of years ago. It's what I'm [04:23] really passionate about particularly in [04:25] places that are unreached. So, uh, [04:27] workers that might be someplace in the [04:29] Middle East or other places where [04:30] they're just, uh, there aren't resources [04:32] for, uh, ongoing care, uh, member care, [04:35] those kinds of things, that's where I [04:36] really like to go and spend myself. So, [04:38] between that and trying to do that here [04:40] in Israel as often as possible, that [04:42] kind of rounds things out a good bit for [04:44] me. But I do stay busy. [04:45] >> Yeah, you do. So, so you're dealing with [04:47] the the professorial uh, and the [04:50] teaching. You're you're dealing with uh, [04:52] personal level counseling. you're you're [04:54] dealing with um the the travel. Yep. [04:58] >> And we're going to talk about that in [04:59] just a minute as well. [05:00] >> But for several organizations, as you [05:02] and I uh have known each other, you you [05:05] help counsel them for staff care. Is [05:08] that Can I say that? [05:09] >> Yeah, that's good. Yeah. [05:10] >> Now, what what does that generally [05:11] entail? Whether you're working with a [05:13] congregation, [05:14] >> a Fortune 500 company, whatever it may [05:16] be, uh or or a nonprofit, whatever. What [05:19] does staff care or team care kind of [05:22] look like? Well, for me, uh, it's it's [05:24] in places that are pretty tense. So, if [05:27] I was working in a in a corporate [05:28] setting, uh, there would be the the the [05:30] kinds of things you would think about, [05:32] marriage counseling, individual kinds of [05:33] things, uh, addictions, uh, those kinds [05:36] of kind of, uh, issues that people kind [05:38] of just walk around with all the time. [05:40] Uh in the United States, I think the [05:43] recent statistic I read is about one in [05:45] four in the United States have a [05:47] diagnosible level of anxiety andor [05:50] depression, [05:51] >> which is a huge huge number. That was [05:53] before COVID co kind of made those [05:56] numbers go up, haven't really come down. [05:58] So, uh there's a there's a lot of work [06:00] to be done just there. What I'm [06:01] passionate about is taking that kind of [06:03] care into places where there is no [06:05] resources. [06:05] >> Okay? So for people who are deployed uh [06:08] someplace outside the United States in [06:10] in kind of a tough uh situation where [06:12] the pressure is on them anyway and then [06:14] they still have the kinds of things [06:16] everybody's marriage can use a tweak [06:17] once in a while. It's harder when you're [06:19] in a place that's uh you know [06:21] pressurized. So um that's that's what [06:24] I'm really passionate about giving [06:25] myself to at this stage of my career. [06:27] Now, are you allowed to say how many [06:31] countries have you now worked in or can [06:34] you round that number for us? [06:36] >> Uh, that's a hard one. I've kind of [06:38] stopped counting. So, uh, I don't know. [06:40] Um, if I'm if I'm reaching for a number, [06:43] probably not a lot. 12, 15 countries, [06:45] maybe something like that. Yeah. [06:46] >> Yeah. Praise the Lord. Now, let's let's [06:48] kind of start honing in a little bit [06:50] about your love for Israel. [06:53] >> And that's going to lead us to our [06:54] Anchor of Hope projects, right? So [06:57] you're you're in all these other [06:58] countries. You you you have a variety of [07:02] skills, both professional and spiritual, [07:04] and yet you carry with you a very [07:07] special love for the Jewish people, the [07:10] nation of Israel, King of Kings family, [07:11] but I'm staying more general. Where does [07:14] that come from? And and and how did you [07:16] first engage with God's drawing your [07:19] heart to the nation of Israel? [07:20] >> It's a great question. Uh you know, I [07:21] didn't really connect the dots until [07:23] fairly recently when I was a child. My [07:26] father was the newspaper reader. He [07:28] would read articles to us. He he read [07:29] three papers a day. And he would he was [07:31] he would always say to me, Martin, [07:33] always keep your eye on Israel. It's how [07:35] you know God's time clock. I don't know [07:37] where dad got that. I really don't. [07:39] >> But it started way back then. I started [07:42] watching that. There isn't a day where [07:44] Israel isn't in the news. Um so watching [07:46] that, coming here myself, I was a little [07:48] late to the party. My wife Sharon made [07:50] two trips ahead of me [07:52] >> and God just deposited this this call to [07:54] the land in her and it took me till 2008 [07:58] I think it was before I actually made my [08:00] first trip here and I got the deposit [08:02] and God just stirred that in me and I [08:04] feel a a great affinity to the land. Uh [08:07] I do serve other countries but if I had [08:09] to prioritize it's always Israel [08:11] >> and the nations right that's my [08:12] priority. Now, you were here just a few [08:14] weeks um before October the 7th. Uh I [08:18] think maybe even one week. You might [08:19] have been here at the beginning of [08:20] Sukkot that year. [08:21] >> Yeah, I think I was. Yeah. [08:22] >> Um [08:23] >> you get back to Kentucky [08:26] >> and uh and you're hearing all the news [08:28] come in and it it and it's hitting you [08:31] >> um in a very profound and deep way. G [08:35] can you walk us through a little bit of [08:37] that? I mean, usually you're the guy [08:38] people would come to, right? They're I'm [08:40] having trauma. I'm having an emergency. [08:41] Yeah, good. But in this case, I think [08:43] you were impacted at a deep level. Yeah. [08:45] Walk us through what that was like. [08:47] >> Well, it was it was difficult like uh [08:48] like you all understand, but uh when [08:51] it's when I'm working with people who [08:52] are struggling with whatever the issue [08:55] might be as a counselor, you stay [08:57] objective. I mean, the the idea is you [08:59] you take somebody's problem, you hang on [09:01] to it while they're in front of you, and [09:02] then you give it back as they leave the [09:03] door. But when it's your family, it's [09:05] different. And Israel feels like my [09:07] family, [09:07] >> right? So, uh, I I like many was on this [09:11] pendulum swing from intense emotion of [09:14] really really almost out of control [09:16] anger to deep deep grief. And I swang I [09:19] got swung back and forth between those [09:21] two for a long time. And it was kind of [09:23] different for me to be feeling that. Uh, [09:25] when I came finally in the first part of [09:27] December, [09:28] >> uh, after I finally got could get back [09:30] with all the flights and everything. Uh, [09:32] when I got home, my wife picked me up at [09:34] the airport and she looked at me. She [09:36] knew something was wrong. She said, "Are [09:37] you okay?" And I said, "No, I'm not." [09:40] And I I I I practice what I preach. [09:43] >> So, I have somebody who uh is a prayer [09:46] minister that I spent some time with. I [09:48] have someone who's a therapist that I [09:49] spent some time with and uh I grabbed a [09:51] chainsaw and cleaned my fence row [09:53] because physical labor is good for me. [09:54] Yeah. [09:54] >> But it took me a while to kind of level [09:56] out again because it was it's personal. [09:58] >> And it has continued to be like that. [10:00] >> Well, and as you've reconnected, uh you [10:02] you're now um working with Dr. [10:05] Catherine, [10:06] >> and you guys are prepping a another [10:10] opportunity to help people here in the [10:12] land. Give us a rundown of what that is [10:15] and how we can pray. [10:15] >> Okay, we are calling it um uh comfort my [10:18] people. Uh if the if people are [10:21] interested in looking up the website, [10:22] it's comfort my people gathering.com. [10:24] >> Okay, [10:24] >> we chose gathering rather than [10:26] conference because it's really meant to [10:27] be a place where we care for the [10:29] caregivers. And that's pastors, ministry [10:32] leaders, prayer ministers, uh kind of [10:34] the the first responders to people when [10:36] they're experiencing things that are [10:38] just out of hand for them. I know that [10:40] pastors often are the first doors that [10:42] get knocked on because they're free [10:44] >> and they're trusted. They're good [10:46] resources, but they carry a lot of that. [10:48] So, we're looking at the kind of trauma [10:51] that the research is telling us that [10:52] Israelis are suffering from. uh the the [10:55] best research we have is right about 30% [10:57] of the general population in Israel is [10:59] suffering from post-traumatic stress [11:01] disorder symptoms not not necessarily [11:04] diagnosible but symptoms so that means [11:06] uh marital disruption addictions of [11:08] every kind just a whole host of things [11:11] and leaders pastors I mean they're [11:13] they're kind of receiving that into [11:15] their uh their offices and conversations [11:17] >> so we know that you know we can't really [11:20] impact the general population like that [11:22] we can maybe hopefully [11:24] uh help care for the caregivers. So, [11:27] we're doing some time down in Tel Aviv [11:29] uh March 3, 4, and 5 [11:31] >> uh setting that up. It's free. Uh we [11:34] want people to come and just receive. [11:35] It's not a conference like an academic [11:37] conference. We're not going to sit [11:39] around and teach on trauma. We want it [11:41] to be a healing environment for people. [11:42] So, we're inviting folks to come and we [11:44] hope somebody shows up. [11:45] >> Well, thank you uh for letting us know. [11:47] And we we tell our intercessors again, [11:49] those of you that are on our mailing [11:50] list and you're praying for us, be [11:52] praying for yes, the Boou Expo, a Boou, [11:56] by the way, is a Hebrew word that means [11:57] come. [11:59] >> And uh pray for that expo this Wednesday [12:01] and Thursday. And then, you know, you [12:03] can direct your uh highle prayers to the [12:06] March gathering, comfort my people [12:08] gathering.com. [12:10] >> comfort my people gathering.com. [12:11] >> commyopeople gathering.com. And and help [12:14] us hone in on those prayers. Uh we need [12:16] we need covering for that as well. Uh [12:18] one last question and then we'll we'll [12:20] kind of wrap this up and head to the [12:21] worship service. Um the stigma of [12:24] counseling. [12:25] >> Katherine talks about it a lot. Where [12:27] does that seem to stand and do you see a [12:28] difference between Israel and a stigma [12:31] for counseling versus America and a [12:33] stigma for counseling or any other [12:34] countries? [12:35] >> I think in the west it's becoming more [12:37] uh more more of a natural thing to for [12:39] people to talk about having therapy, [12:41] having a therapist, having someone to [12:42] sit down with. Uh I talk a lot about [12:44] therapeutic conversation and I believe [12:47] that uh good counseling is also good [12:49] disciplehip. Those two go hand inand it. [12:51] It isn't like one and the other. Uh I [12:53] think that that counseling should [12:55] produce good good disciplehip and should [12:57] should be formational in our lives. I [12:59] think as people kind of understand that [13:02] they're they're embracing that as kind [13:03] of a component of what it means to [13:05] actually grow spiritually as well. So [13:07] >> Right. Yeah. [13:08] >> Yeah. And we we've tried to walk that [13:10] with Dr. Katherine, helping people [13:12] understand that there doesn't have to be [13:14] a stigma. It's we consider it uh and [13:17] you've probably heard me say this [13:18] before, we consider counseling one of [13:21] the on-ramps of disciplehip. Absolutely. [13:23] It can it can be, you know, preaching [13:25] the gospel here, serving the poor over [13:27] here, but it might be emergency and [13:29] trauma over here or addiction over here [13:32] through the counseling uh let's call it [13:34] on-ramp [13:36] >> that that really offers a new [13:37] opportunity. And what you guys are doing [13:40] at this gathering is very different than [13:42] Katherine's uh regular 30-week lay [13:44] counselors course because you're [13:46] ministering to the ministers, right? [13:48] Okay. So, thank you Martin for being [13:49] with us here on Kings Community Live. [13:51] >> Um we want to go in just a minute to the [13:54] sanctuary. We're going to have wonderful [13:55] worship. We're starting a brand new [13:57] series today. Turning your Bibles to [13:58] Genesis chapter 14. We're going to be [14:01] talking about the covenant table. Thank [14:03] you for being with us. Let's go worship. [14:19] Let's celebrate [music] our Messiah [14:21] together. Are you ready? King of Kings, [14:24] welcome. Let's worship the Lord. Put [14:26] your hands together. Come. [14:40] >> [music] [14:50] [music] [14:55] >> Thomas. [music] [15:03] [music] [15:04] Oh, you done it. [music] [15:13] [music] [15:20] [music and singing] [15:31] >> [music] [15:33] >> Manu [15:36] [singing] [15:39] [music] [15:43] [music] [15:46] [singing] [15:50] [music] [15:52] [singing] [15:56] >> [music] [15:57] >> It's not [16:00] [singing] [16:06] [music] [16:10] [singing] [16:11] my [16:13] goal. [music] [16:15] [singing] [16:19] [music] [16:21] He's got [16:23] [singing] [16:27] it all. [music] [16:29] He's got [16:32] I [singing] go. [16:35] [music] [16:39] Hey, I know. [18:24] Hope [music and singing] [18:25] is stiring. [18:28] Hearts are yearning for you. [18:35] We long for you. [music] [18:40] And when we see you, we find strength to [18:44] face [music] the day. [18:48] In your presence, all our [18:51] [music and singing] fears are washed [18:53] away. [18:57] Hosana. [19:02] Hosana. [19:04] [music] [19:05] You are the God who saves us. Worthy [19:10] [singing] of all our praises. [music] [19:14] Amen. [35:53] Let's sing it one more time. [music] [36:11] >> [singing] [36:34] [music] [36:34] >> I am an instrument [36:38] of exultation. [singing] [36:42] And I was [music] born to lift your name [36:45] above all names. [36:48] You [music] hear the [singing] melody [36:52] of all creation. [36:56] But there's a song [music and singing] [36:57] of praise that only I can bring. [37:02] Who else is worthy? [37:05] Who else [music and singing] is worthy? Amen. He is worthy. He is worthy. [45:02] You may be seated. [45:04] We're going to hear [music] the parasa [45:07] this evening. Our dear Liz Stout is [45:10] going to share [music] the para with us. [45:11] Thank you, Liz. [45:16] Hey, everybody. Wow, that was awesome to [45:18] worship together. So great to be here [45:21] tonight. Um, so we're going to read if [45:23] you guys want to get out your Bibles or [45:25] devices. Uh, the parisha this week is V [45:28] and it's I appeared [music] and God is [45:30] speaking. He's saying I appeared. So it [45:32] starts in Exodus 7 um in verses 1-7. [45:38] Then the Lord said to Moses, "See, I [45:40] have made you like God to Pharaoh, and [45:43] your brother Aaron will be your prophet. [45:46] You are to say everything I command you, [45:49] [music] and your brother Aaron is to [45:50] tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go [45:53] out of his country, but I will harden [45:56] Pharaoh's heart. And though I multiply [45:59] my signs and wonders in Egypt, he will [46:02] not listen to you." Then I will lay my [46:05] hand on Egypt, [music] [46:06] and with mighty acts of judgment I will [46:09] bring out my divisions, my people, the [46:12] Israelites. And the Egyptians will know [46:14] that I am the Lord when I stretch out my [46:17] hand against Egypt and bring the [46:20] Israelites out of it. Moses and Aaron [46:23] did just as the Lord commanded them. [46:26] Moses was 80 years old and Aaron [music] [46:29] 83 when they spoke to Pharaoh. [46:33] And now we're going to read from the [46:34] haftar from Ezekiel [music] 28 25- 26. [46:42] This is what the sovereign Lord says [46:44] when I gather the people of Israel from [46:46] the nations [music] where they have been [46:48] scattered. I will be proved holy through [46:51] them in the sight of the nations. Then [46:54] they will live in their own land [music] [46:57] which I gave to my servant Jacob. They [47:00] will live there in safety [music] and [47:02] will build houses and plant vineyards. [47:05] They will live in safety when I inflict [47:08] punishment on all their neighbors whom [47:10] maligned them. Then they will know that [47:13] I am the Lord their God. [47:16] And finally, [music] we're going to read [47:18] from the breth khadesha from the New [47:19] Testament in Revelation [47:22] 21 [music] [47:23] 15- 21. [47:27] Look, I come like a thief. Blessed is [47:30] the one who stays awake and remains [47:32] clothed so as not to go naked and be [47:35] shamefully exposed. Then they gathered [47:38] the kings together [music] to the place [47:39] that in Hebrew is called Armageddon. [47:42] The seventh angel poured out his bowl [47:44] into the air, and out of the temple came [47:47] a loud voice from the throne, [music] [47:48] saying, "It is done." Then there came [47:52] flashes of lightning, [music] rumblings, [47:54] peels of thunder, and a severe [47:56] earthquake. No earthquake like it has [48:00] ever occurred since mankind has been on [48:02] earth. So tremendous was the quake. The [48:06] great city split into three parts, and [48:08] the cities of the nations collapsed. God [48:11] remembered Babylon the great and gave [48:13] her the cup filled with the wine of the [48:15] fury of his wrath. Every island fled [48:18] away and the mountains could not be [48:20] found. [music] [48:21] From the sky, huge hailstones, each [48:25] weighing about 100 pounds, fell on [48:27] people and they cursed [music] God on [48:28] account of the plague of hell because [48:31] the plague was so terrible. [48:34] [music] Okay, I know it's difficult at [48:35] the end, that last part. So, we'll pray [48:37] for God's mercy on these people, but um [48:40] [music] yeah, we're going to pray [48:41] together. So, if you join me um together [48:43] in prayer. So, Father God, [music] we [48:45] thank you for your word. We thank you, [48:47] Lord, that you call people into your [48:49] kingdom. And we ask, Lord, that you [48:51] would um [music] seek and save the lost, [48:54] Lord. That you would help people to come [48:55] in. Lord, we just ask that you would [48:56] send your spirit out to convict people [48:58] of their sin. Lord, help them to cry out [49:01] to you and to be saved. Lord, we thank [49:03] you [music] that you remain faithful to [49:05] the end. Lord, help us to stay awake and [49:07] be ready just as it says here in [49:08] Revelation that you will come like a [49:10] thief [music] in the night. Lord, help [49:11] us to be clothed with your love and your [49:13] grace. Lord, we thank you, God, [music] [49:16] that you are a God of mercy and justice. [49:18] And we ask that you would bring many [49:19] into your family and that you would [49:21] bring revival here in Jerusalem, Lord, [49:22] in all Israel. We thank you for bringing [49:24] people in, Lord. That you would call [49:26] them by name, Lord. We also lift up our [49:28] children to you, Lord. We just thank [49:30] you, God, that they would know you, [49:31] Lord, even at a young age, Lord, that [49:33] you would help them to see you for who [49:35] you truly are. We thank you, [music] [49:36] Lord, for your presence with us. We just [49:38] ask that you would restore people's [49:40] lives, that you would heal up the [49:41] brokenhearted. [music] And we thank you, [49:43] God, that um you are with us, Lord, in [49:45] every struggle that we face, Lord. And I [49:47] want to lift up also the Iranian people [49:48] to you at this time, Lord. I just ask, [49:50] God, that you would meet them, Lord, [49:52] that you would um raise up the church [49:54] there, Lord, to be a light in that [49:55] place, oh God. And that you would [49:57] [music] um just bring freedom to the [49:59] Iranian people, Lord. We bless them in [50:01] the name of Yeshua. We thank you, Lord, [50:02] that we would see people um rejoicing in [50:05] the streets and even praising your name [50:07] there in the name of Yeshua. [music] [50:09] Amen. [50:15] Yeah. Amen. God, thank you. [50:19] Thank you, Liz. Wonderful scriptures [50:22] tonight. [music] [50:23] And uh being prepared. And that's [50:26] actually what I'm going to read as well [50:28] as we prepare our hearts to give the [50:31] Lord's tithes and our offerings. Yeshua [50:33] is speaking to us in chapter 12 of Luke. [50:38] And he's talking about us not worrying [50:41] about our own provisions. And he says, [50:43] "Therefore, I tell you, do not worry [50:45] about your life, what you'll eat, what [50:48] you'll about your body, what you're [50:49] going to wear, what you're going to [50:51] eat." And then he says a little bit [50:54] later, "Do not be afraid, little flock, [50:58] for your father pleased to give you the [51:02] kingdom." [51:04] Let that soak in for a second. God [51:06] hasn't just given us pieces or parts. [51:09] He's given us the whole kingdom. And [51:12] he's been pleased to do it. So Yeshua [51:15] continues, "Sell your possessions and [51:19] give to the poor. Provide purses for [51:22] yourselves that will not wear out. A [51:25] treasure in heaven that will never fail. [51:27] Where no thief comes near and no moth [51:31] destroys. For where your treasure is, [51:34] there your heart is also. So we know [51:37] that truth. We hear that often. That's [51:39] where our treasure is. But then he [51:42] continues and he connects it to us being [51:46] prepared. [51:47] He says, "Be dressed and ready for [51:50] service and keep your lamps burning. You [51:54] also must be ready because the Son of [51:57] Man will come at an hour. You do not [52:01] expect him to come. Who then is the [52:04] faithful and the wise manager? He's [52:07] talking to all of us. Who's wise? Who's [52:10] that faithful manager whom the Lord puts [52:13] in charge of his servants to give them [52:16] their food and their allowance at the [52:18] proper time? It will be good for that [52:21] servant whom the master finds doing so [52:23] when he returns. Truly I tell you, he [52:26] will put him in charge of all of his [52:28] possessions. [52:30] So all of those words together, God has [52:33] given us the whole kingdom. And he's put [52:37] us in charge of being the masters over [52:41] those spheres of influence in our own [52:43] lives [52:45] and to steward it well. [music] [52:48] And in doing that, we prepare ourselves [52:51] for his soon return. So, we use wisely [52:55] what he's given to us. And part of that, [52:59] just a small part of it, is being good [53:02] stewards in our finances as we give back [53:07] to him to prove to him we're being good [53:10] [music] stewards with everything that [53:11] he's given to us here on earth. The [53:13] kingdom that he's given to us, that he's [53:16] put into our pockets to be good stewards [53:20] with. So God, we ask that you would give [53:22] us [53:24] faithful hearts, [53:26] give us gracious hearts, give us wisdom [53:30] to prepare ourselves, to prepare our [53:32] minds and our hearts, our lives for that [53:36] eternal [53:38] uh wedding relationship with you. We ask [53:41] for your blessing upon all of our gifts [53:43] and our giving tonight, upon our tithes [53:45] as we bring them back into your [53:48] storehouse. [53:49] And we pray God that you would be [53:51] glorified through all of those in [53:53] Yeshua's name. Amen. He's given us the [53:56] kingdom. Tucked it into our pockets. [53:59] God, thank you. We're happy you [62:58] get a chance to worship and study the [63:00] word of God with us tonight. This was a [63:03] big week for us. Um uh thank you for [63:06] those that were part of Vision Sunday [63:08] last week. We we talked about all the [63:11] great things God did in 2025. We started [63:13] to look ahead at some of the vision [63:15] points the Lord had given us for this [63:17] coming year 2026. I'm on the Gregorian [63:20] calendar of course for that. Remember we [63:22] talked about the four or five different [63:24] uh new years that the Jewish people [63:26] celebrate especially here in Israel. And [63:28] then I also wanted to say thank you to [63:30] everybody, especially our members uh who [63:33] joined us on Wednesday night. Thank you. [63:35] I know some of you couldn't be there, [63:36] but thank you for those of you that [63:38] joined us on Wednesday night for our [63:39] membership meeting. We went a little bit [63:41] deeper. We cast a little bit more [63:43] specific vision and we talked about how [63:45] we could all be part of that. We got a [63:47] chance to thank many people at that same [63:50] time. So, thank you guys for for being [63:52] part of that. It's a a big week ahead of [63:54] us, of course, and you heard me mention [63:56] or the members heard me mention about [63:58] our BO uh worship and arts expo. We want [64:00] you to pray for us and our team. We've [64:03] got about 350 [64:06] um artists and and creatives coming from [64:09] all over the country to our uh time and [64:12] conference and expo this week. Uh we get [64:14] a chance to host that. It's a big body [64:17] of Messiah unity event we're going to do [64:19] this week. So, thank you for your [64:21] prayers. If you're jotting down or you [64:23] have bullet points of prayer this week, [64:25] thank you for praying for us here uh at [64:28] King of Kings. We we bless you. Let's uh [64:31] grab your Bibles. Listen, we're going to [64:32] start a brand new series tonight. We're [64:34] excited about this series. It's called [64:37] the Covenant Table. [64:40] And if you want to get ahead of me a [64:42] little bit, you can turn to Genesis 12 [64:44] and Genesis 14. Those will be the two [64:46] main texts that we we look at tonight. [64:51] Uh if you're a member of the [64:53] congregation and you missed that [64:54] membership meeting, [64:56] one thing you missed and I want you to [64:58] email us at the office or give us a text [65:00] or a phone call. We did put forth the [65:02] name of one potential new deacon we [65:06] wanted to add to the team. Uh we we we [65:09] felt uh he has served us in so many ways [65:12] and uh a man of high character. So, if [65:15] you missed that announcement, make sure [65:17] you email me or text or something to uh [65:19] to us or ask one of our our ushers who [65:22] might have been there. We will we will [65:24] give you that that person's name. And we [65:26] we like to get the feedback from the [65:28] members. Uh it's a team work thing we do [65:31] together. So, we want your feedback. Uh [65:34] we give you one month to give feedback [65:36] and then we'll we'll uh announce the [65:39] next step for that. So, if you're an [65:42] official member, that was an [65:43] announcement for you. Now listen, in the [65:46] Bible and in the kingdom of God, history [65:48] on earth, there are important moments [65:51] that that shape and direct the future. [65:55] Many times these important moments are [65:57] connected to a special meal or eating [66:00] around a table. There there's often a [66:02] transaction at a covenant table that [66:05] greatly alters the course of history. [66:08] And in the series we want to present to [66:10] you over the next several weeks, we want [66:12] to read and then examine several of [66:14] these crucial moments and draw out what [66:17] God revealed uh to his people around the [66:20] table and during these moments. And [66:23] that's why we're calling it the covenant [66:24] table. [66:27] There are so many times in the Bible [66:29] where where God is interacting with us [66:31] or he's putting people together. They [66:33] have this moment, this covenant moment [66:35] over a meal and it and it alters things. [66:38] Things change after that. It's not the [66:39] same. Sometimes he introduces new [66:41] covenants, a new direction. He gives [66:43] Israel a new instruction or he changes [66:47] the way that people understood [66:49] something. We want to look at those and [66:50] we want to take those applications and [66:52] then apply them to our life as well. And [66:54] we're going to do that leading up to [66:56] Pesak, of course, because we will cover [66:59] the the original Pesak in this series as [67:02] we get closer to the Passover time. So, [67:05] let me give you a little history lesson [67:06] here. Genesis 12, first verse. We're [67:10] going to start there and read. I'm going [67:11] to build a little bit of history for you [67:13] because it's important for the context. [67:17] Genesis 12:1. The Lord had said to [67:20] Abram, "Go from your country, your [67:23] people, and your father's household to [67:25] the land I will show you. I will make [67:28] you into a great nation, and I will [67:30] bless you. I will make your name great, [67:32] and you will be a blessing, and I will [67:34] bless those who bless you, and whoever [67:36] curses you, I will curse, and all the [67:39] people on earth will be blessed through [67:40] you." So, Abram went as the Lord had [67:43] told him, and Lot went with him. Abram [67:47] was 75 years old when he set out from [67:50] Haran. He took his wife Sarah, his [67:53] nephew Lot, and all the possessions that [67:55] they had accumulated and the people they [67:57] had acquired in Haran, and they set out [67:59] for the land of Canaan or Canaan, and [68:02] they arrived there. [68:04] So, that's kind of our opening. God [68:06] said, Abram, I want you to leave where [68:08] you are. Leave, leave Haron. go to this [68:12] new place, this this covenant land I'm [68:16] going to give to you and your [68:17] descendants." Now, Abraham, of course, [68:19] he didn't he didn't get to see all of [68:21] the fulfillment of that. He got to see [68:23] some of it, but but not all of it. But [68:25] Abraham believed God's words were true. [68:28] He obeyed God, and he moved his family [68:30] from Haron uh to what would later become [68:34] the land of the covenant. Uh, and [68:36] Abraham and all of his very large and [68:41] growing household when they got to the [68:44] land of Canaan, later to be Israel, they [68:48] settled in the area called Mamry. Well, [68:51] Mamry was uh really the name of the [68:54] person who owned the land. And in [68:56] Mamry's land, there were all these great [68:59] trees and forests. And that's where he [69:00] settled. Oftentimes, you'll read about [69:03] it. and it calls the great trees of [69:05] memory, right? So, it's not necessarily [69:07] only the name of the place. The place is [69:09] named after the person who owned it and [69:11] this is where he settled. But what's [69:13] important about that settlement area [69:17] is it was in the area or the region of [69:20] the Amorites [69:22] at the time. At the time it was it was [69:24] the the region of the Amorite territory. [69:28] And it was from there that Abram gets [69:31] sucked into a war. And this war has been [69:35] going on about 13 years, according to [69:38] the Bible, about 13 years. So here he [69:40] is. He's left his home. He's moved by [69:42] faith to where God said across this vast [69:45] land in the Middle East. He settles in [69:48] the territory of the Amorites. He knows [69:50] he's in his covenant land of the future, [69:52] but it's not it's not ready yet. And so [69:55] he's by the great trees of Mamry in the [69:57] Amorite territory. This war has been [70:00] going on for 13 years and Abram gets [70:03] sucked into it. Well, let me tell you [70:04] how that happened. There's a man named [70:07] Ketare. [70:08] He's the king of Elum and uh he makes an [70:13] alliance. So Ketare makes an alliance [70:16] with three other kings. Now listen, back [70:19] in those days, a king wasn't necessarily [70:24] the king of an empire. [70:26] He was the king of a city. It was more [70:28] like a time of the citystates. Now, [70:30] there were a few empires like the [70:31] Egyptians, um the Calaldanss maybe, but [70:34] but most most cities were their own [70:38] country. We call that a city-state. And [70:40] and the kings were kings of those [70:42] citystates. So this man, king of Elum, [70:45] Ketalomare, he unifies his city with [70:49] three other cities. So that makes a [70:51] group of four. Everybody follow the [70:53] math? Okay, stick with me. It's a math [70:56] quiz at the end of this sermon. So [70:58] there's a group of four and they start [71:01] attacking people and they start [71:02] conquering people. The Bible says they [71:04] conquered at least seven other [71:06] citystates [71:08] as this alliance uh was growing. [71:12] So they they they they push forward and [71:15] there's a group that gets tired of them [71:20] and they get off to the side and they [71:22] decide that we're going to form our own [71:24] alliance and we're going to be a group [71:27] of five. [71:29] And our group of five led by uh by Bara [71:34] the king of Sodom. Everybody knows the [71:36] famous Sodom, right? He's Barra is the [71:38] king of Sodom and he gets a group of [71:40] five together and his group of five [71:43] stand up against [71:46] uh the king of Ilum and his four. So [71:48] it's like five against four. You can see [71:50] how the battle lines are now being [71:53] drawn. [71:54] Well, [71:57] the king of Elim is attacking the [71:59] Amorite territory, right? And you see [72:00] that at some point this is going to [72:02] start to involve Abram [72:05] because that's where he settled. But his [72:07] nephew Lot settled in the city of Sodom. [72:12] So when the group of four hears the king [72:15] of Sodom has arranged the group of five [72:17] to fight against them, what's his first [72:19] action? He attacks Sodom. And of course [72:22] when he does that, he overwhelms the [72:25] city. He defeats Sodom and he takes Lot [72:28] amongst other people, but he takes Lot [72:32] uh captive hostage. [72:34] And now Abram has no choice. now he has [72:37] to enter into this war that he probably [72:40] doesn't want to be part of but he gets [72:42] sucked into it here. [72:45] So let me read you that passage and how [72:47] it kind of lays out in Genesis 14 verse [72:51] 8. [72:52] Genesis 14:8. [72:55] You'll hear a lot of names thrown [72:57] around. Just stick with the main story. [72:59] Then the king of Sodom, the king of [73:00] Gomorrah, the king of Admma, the king of [73:02] Zaboim, and the king of Bella, that is [73:04] Zor, marched out and drew up their [73:08] battle lines in the valley of Sadim [73:09] against Kedomare, king of Elum. Tidal, [73:12] king of Goim, Amrafel, king of Shinar, [73:15] and Ariak, king of Alasar, four kings [73:19] against five. Now, the valley of Sadim [73:22] was full of tarps. And when the kings of [73:23] Sodom and Gomorrah fled, some of them [73:25] fell. Some of the men fell into these [73:28] tar pits and the rest of them fled to [73:30] the hills. [73:33] The four kings seized all the goods of [73:35] Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food. [73:37] Then they went away. They also carried [73:40] off Abrams nephew Lot and his [73:42] possessions since he was living in [73:43] Sodom. A man who had escaped came and [73:46] reported this to Abram the Hebrew. Now [73:48] Abram was living near the great trees of [73:51] memory the Amorite, a brother of Eshkol [73:53] and Anar, all of whom were allied with [73:56] Abram. [73:58] Okay, so let's just make sure we all [74:01] understand what's happening. [74:03] There's Ketal and a group of four [74:05] attacking everyone. [74:08] There is Barra and his group of five [74:11] that are trying to stop him. [74:14] They don't succeed. Cedalomare takes [74:17] over Sodom, takes a bunch of people [74:19] hostage, including Lot. Abram [74:22] gets a group of three. So now there's a [74:24] group of five, a group of four, and a [74:26] group of three. Follow my math. Come on. [74:30] And and now Abram is sucked into this [74:33] 13-year-old war because he has to go [74:36] rescue his nephew Lot. Okay, so that's [74:39] kind of where we are. But but we're [74:40] going to pause there in the story to [74:42] learn a little bit about Abram. [74:45] First of all, it says that Abram took [74:49] 318 [74:51] fighting men from his own household. [74:56] You say, "Well, I I didn't I didn't hear [74:58] about this covenant child yet. He hadn't [75:00] have any children." It even says Abraham [75:01] the Hebrew, but he's the only Hebrew. [75:06] How can you be the Hebrew if you're the [75:08] only Hebrew? [75:11] Well, Abram had a an an enterprise, if [75:16] you will. He was a great businessman. He [75:19] was quite wealthy. He had 318 fighting [75:22] men in his family. That means he he had [75:25] his own army. But in order to have 318 [75:28] fighting men in your own family, that [75:31] means those 318 men had parents, [75:36] which means Abram had a lot of people in [75:38] his household. It's estimated a couple [75:41] of thousand people. You know how rich [75:43] you have to be to have a household of a [75:44] thousand people. Listen, I got four [75:47] kids. They're sucking me dry. [75:51] Can imagine taking care of all these [75:52] people and having an army. What it tells [75:55] you [75:58] in simple terms is that Abram was a [76:01] king. [76:03] You need to understand the context of [76:05] that. He's a king. [76:08] You have that many people, you're that [76:09] wealthy, and you have your own army. And [76:11] then you have the ability in the middle [76:14] of a war to go make an alliance with [76:17] other people so that your citystate [76:21] alliances [snorts] go and defeat the big [76:24] bad, [76:26] right? You're you're a you're a king. [76:28] You have audience with other kings, [76:31] and it's your army that ends up winning. [76:35] So now Abraham, [76:38] he's called Abram at this point. [76:42] He's immediately going to be famous to [76:44] all of the cities that we read about. [76:47] The group of five, the group of four, [76:48] the group of seven that was conquered, [76:50] his own group of three. Everybody in [76:52] that sphere [76:55] is now going to know who he is because [76:56] it was his group that won. [77:00] and his fame begins to spread after [77:02] defeating Kadalo Mar and his alliance. [77:06] And there was a custom at this time that [77:11] if you were close by or in a surrounding [77:13] region and and and there was a war [77:18] between kings or between citystates, the [77:20] custom was that you go and congratulate [77:25] assuming you weren't part of it. You go [77:28] congratulate the winning king. [77:33] You bring him gifts and you say, "Hey [77:35] man, you're the winning team. I want to [77:37] be on the winning team and you make [77:40] friends with the winning king." [77:44] And what's interesting is this follows [77:46] culturally [77:48] the accuracy of the time. But look what [77:50] happens. Stay in Genesis 14 for a [77:52] second. [77:55] Look at verse 18. Abraham gets a [77:58] visitor. Now that he's famous, he gets a [78:00] visitor after being victorious. [78:04] Then MelkiseDC, king of Salem, brought [78:07] out bread and wine. He was priest of God [78:11] most high. And he blessed Abram, saying, [78:13] "Blessed be Abram by God most high, [78:15] creator of heaven and earth. And praise [78:17] be to God most high, who delivered your [78:18] enemies into your hands." Then Abram [78:20] gave him a tenth of everything. [78:24] MelkiseDC, this famous figure in the [78:27] Bible, visits Abraham in keeping with [78:30] the custom because Abraham just won a [78:33] war because he's a king. [78:36] Now, I know in your mind you have to [78:38] kind of shift a little bit from your [78:41] Shabbat school and what they taught you [78:43] about Abraham [78:45] that he had no kids and it was just him [78:47] and Sarah and Lot and they left and it's [78:49] just the three of them and they were [78:50] like, "Hey, we're all alone. [78:53] But that's not the actual picture of of [78:56] Abraham. [78:58] And when King MelkiseDC visits him, he's [79:01] congratulating him like all the other [79:04] kings would. As a matter of fact, if you [79:06] were to read further into chapter 14, [79:08] you're going to see that the king of [79:10] Sodom does the same thing right after [79:12] MelkiseDC. He tries to come and say, [79:14] "Hey, I know this is the custom. You're [79:16] the winning king. I'm going to bring you [79:18] this and I'm going to bring you that." [79:19] And Abraham goes, "I don't want it from [79:20] you. Interesting. [79:24] When Melkazedc brings him something, he [79:26] welcomes it. [79:29] When Barah tries to bring him, king of [79:31] Sodom, when Barah tries to bring it to [79:33] him, Abraham says, "I don't want any of [79:34] it." [79:36] I found that interesting because Abraham [79:39] says to the king of Sodom, "I don't want [79:41] to owe you anything." [79:44] And every [79:46] piece of honor needs to go to God for [79:48] this victory. I don't want to owe you [79:50] anything. [79:52] So now we have this figure, this [79:54] visitor, this visiting king named [79:56] Melkazedc. Stay with me on the story [80:00] and what we just read is the crucial [80:02] covenant table portion. What are the [80:06] elements of Melkazedc's visit? Well, [80:08] first, did you notice the first thing [80:11] listed was he brought bread and wine to [80:14] Abram. [80:18] He shared it with him. Now, this is the [80:19] first time that bread and wine together [80:21] are mentioned in the Bible. If you ever [80:23] want to go from where we're going to end [80:25] up in our series is at the wedding [80:27] supper of the lamb, right? We're going [80:28] to end up way down the road eventually. [80:30] But if we start working our way [80:32] backwards, [80:34] right? Taking of the Lord's supper [80:36] together, Yeshua's last Passover seder [80:39] meal, right? You understand all this [80:41] Passover throughout history, other [80:43] covenant meals that we're going to talk [80:44] about. You work your way back to the [80:46] first Passover. Nope, still not there [80:47] yet. You got to keep working your way [80:49] back. The elders on Mount Si, keep going [80:53] and you're going to arrive here. [80:57] This is the first mention of the bread [80:58] and wine together in the covenant meal. [81:01] It's Melkisedc. [81:03] But Abraham notices he's different than [81:05] the other kings. Right off the bat, he's [81:08] different. I take I take blessing from [81:10] Melkisedc and I reject blessing from the [81:13] other guys. [81:15] He knew something. He knew something. He [81:18] had a secret. [81:20] Abraham had a secret. [81:24] We can easily see the correlation to the [81:26] Lord's supper. I mean, it's not hard for [81:28] any believer to see the bread and the [81:30] wine and go, "Something important is [81:32] happening here." [81:36] Could it be that God wanted us to see [81:38] the foreshadowing of what he was going [81:39] to do with the bread and the wine? [81:42] And he wanted to set the stage here. The [81:45] first thing he did, he did three things, [81:47] but the first one was they shared the [81:49] bread and the wine together. The second [81:51] thing Melkisedc does is he blesses [81:52] Abram. [81:54] He blesses him. [81:57] Now, it's clear that MelkiseDC, it says [81:59] three times he's a priest of the most [82:01] high, that he serves the same God as [82:04] Abraham. It's very clear from the text, [82:06] he calls him God most high. He calls him [82:08] the creator of the of all creation and [82:10] of the world. And it's he's not talking [82:12] about a different God. This is the same [82:14] God. [82:15] creator of heaven and earth, the most [82:17] high God. So MelkiseDC is in a very rare [82:21] company in the Bible because it calls [82:25] him a priest and yet it has already told [82:28] us that he's the king of Salem. So he is [82:30] a king and a priest. Whoa, [82:34] that got really special, really unique. [82:39] Abraham's kind of a king, but he's not a [82:41] priest. [82:42] And as you look forward into the Torah, [82:45] you're going to see a lot of priests, [82:46] but they're not kings. [82:49] But this guy, he's unique in so many [82:53] ways. He blesses Abraham because he's a [82:55] priest. [82:58] You know, I see there the foreshadowing [83:00] of what will come later with the the [83:03] Levitical priesthood ironic benediction [83:04] where God says, "I want my priest to [83:06] bless my people." [83:09] Well, Mkisedc was long before all that [83:12] and he was already in the role of taking [83:16] communion together with Abraham and then [83:19] saying a priestly blessing over Abraham. [83:22] Remember Abraham receives it. He doesn't [83:24] reject it, but he rejects it from [83:26] everybody else. Abraham knows something. [83:28] He knows something. [83:31] King and priest. Third, so he gives him [83:33] the bread and the wine together. He [83:34] blesses him. He speaks a blessing, a [83:36] priestly blessing over him. And then [83:38] third, Abraham's response to MelkiseDC [83:41] is that he gives him a tithe. [83:44] He gives him a tenth of everything. [83:47] Now, what on earth would motivate [83:49] Abraham to do this? Remember, there is [83:51] no tabernacle yet. There is no temple. [83:54] There are no Levites. There are no [83:56] tribes. There's not even a defined [83:58] border of Israel yet. [84:02] What would prompt Abraham [84:04] to do this? Abram saw something in [84:07] MelkiseDC. He saw something in the [84:09] visit, in the blessing, in the covenant [84:10] meal, in the bread and the wine, but it [84:12] prompted him to give the tithe, the 10%. [84:16] And here's what's interesting. If you [84:18] were to read the names very carefully of [84:21] the story, MelkiseDC's not even involved [84:24] in the war, [84:26] right? You had the the group of five, [84:29] the group of four, the group of three, [84:30] and then the group of seven that was [84:32] conquered. And MelkiseDC, king of Salem, [84:35] is not in any of that. [84:38] It reminded me of when the Lord [84:42] visited [84:44] Joshua [84:46] and Joshua's spying on the enemy and [84:49] then he sees the Lord in the flesh. [84:51] Doesn't know it's the Lord at the at [84:53] first. He says, "Who are you?" He says, [84:55] "You know, I'm the commander of the [84:56] Lord's army." And Joshua says, "Are you [84:59] for us or for them?" And he's like, "I'm [85:00] not for anybody. [85:03] MelkiseDC's not for anybody. He's not [85:05] even in the war. His name never comes up [85:07] in the war. And he just shows up [85:10] congratulating Abraham, [85:13] taking of the covenant meal, bread and [85:14] wine, giving him a priestly blessing. [85:17] Then Abraham's response isn't rejection [85:21] like the other kings. It's I need to [85:23] tithe to you. [85:25] He knows something. He knows something. [85:29] We have a pretty good handle now on who [85:31] Abram is at this point. [85:33] But who's this other person at the at [85:35] the covenant table? This Melkisedc guy. [85:38] Well, [85:41] we are told that his name means right [85:45] from from Melkisedc you're going to get [85:47] Melkitc in Hebrew. So you're going to [85:49] get Mel the king and sedc righteousness. [85:54] So you're going to get king of [85:55] righteousness. [85:57] And then what is he? The king of [86:00] Salem. [86:03] Shalom. [86:04] Peace. So he's the king of righteousness [86:07] and he's the prince of peace. [86:10] That's what he's in charge of. Sounds a [86:12] lot like a verse we know from our [86:14] prophetic writings of Isaiah. Chapter [86:17] nine. For to us a child is born. To us a [86:19] son is given. And the government will be [86:21] on his shoulders. And he will be called [86:24] wonderful counselor, mighty God, [86:26] everlasting father, prince of peace, the [86:28] sar shalom. Of the greatness of his [86:31] government, and peace there will be no [86:33] end. He will reign on David's throne and [86:35] over his kingdom, establishing and [86:36] upholding it with justice and [86:38] righteousness from that time on and [86:40] forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty [86:42] will accomplish this. [86:45] An important thing to remember when [86:48] Abram is meeting MelkiseDC and he [86:50] responds so positively to him but he [86:53] doesn't respond as positively to the [86:55] other kings and he gives him a tithe and [86:57] he doesn't do anything to the other [86:58] kings. What's important to remember by [87:01] the time we get to the story in Genesis [87:02] 14 is that Abram has already seen the [87:05] Lord twice. [87:09] Abram met the Lord in Genesis 12 and he [87:12] met him again in Genesis 13. [87:15] He sees something in MelkiseDC [87:18] that he recognizes. [87:22] By the way, he coming episodes he sees [87:25] it again. [87:27] You'll find out when he sees it again. [87:30] And he's responding not as a stranger. [87:33] He's responding as an ally, as a friend, [87:36] as a partner, not as he did with the [87:40] other kings. [87:42] So either [87:44] Abram met God and talked with him and [87:46] saw him on these other occasions or [87:49] Abram at least knew what the voice of [87:51] God sounded like and he could hear the [87:53] voice of God through Melkisedc. [87:57] Now as we get into some new covenant [87:59] scriptures here in a minute, Hebrews [88:00] chapter 6:19, [88:02] we're going to learn a little bit more [88:04] about him. [88:06] Hebrews 6:19, "We have this hope as an [88:09] anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It [88:12] enters the inner sanctuary behind the [88:14] curtain where our forerunner Yeshua has [88:17] entered on our behalf. He has become a [88:19] high priest forever in the order of [88:21] MelkiseDC. Yeshua has become a high [88:24] priest, but not like the Levites." [88:28] Very important, [88:30] crucial moment in the history of Judaism [88:33] right there. crucial moment to [88:35] understand it. Yeshua is high priest, [88:38] but he's not like the Levites. [88:42] He's like MelkiseDC. You say, hm, this [88:46] guy is a little bit of an enigma. He [88:48] wasn't in the war, but he showed up to [88:50] congratulate. [88:52] He does a covenant meal, bread and wine. [88:54] He speaks a priestly blessing over [88:57] Abram. Abram seems to recognize [88:59] something about him, tithes to him. [89:04] There's no such thing as the Levites. [89:06] There is this thing called the order of [89:08] MelkiseDC. And Yeshua is part of that [89:10] order, not part of the order of the [89:13] Levites. You know, King David also saw [89:16] this connection later. Psalm chapter 110 [89:20] verse 4. Psalm 1104. [89:23] He says, "The Lord has sworn and will [89:24] not change his mind. You are a priest [89:26] forever in the order of MelkiseDC." So [89:29] both King David and the author of [89:31] Hebrews are now making a direct link [89:32] between Yeshua and Melkisedc. [89:35] They're relating them together because [89:37] of their unique qualities because they [89:40] are both king and priests. [89:43] And the Levites were not kings and [89:45] priests. [89:47] They were priests but not kings. [89:50] But MelkiseDC and Yeshua are both king [89:53] and priests. And that's one of the [89:55] reasons that David and the author of [89:57] Hebrews puts him in the category [90:00] of MelkiseDC. Let's keep reading in [90:02] Hebrews 7 [90:04] first verse. Hebrews 7 verse 1. [90:09] This Melkisedc was the king of Salem and [90:11] he was priest of God most high. He met [90:13] Abraham returning from the defeat of the [90:15] kings and blessed him and Abraham gave [90:18] him a tenth of everything. First the [90:21] name Melkisedc means king of [90:22] righteousness. Then also king of Salem [90:24] means king of peace. Without a father or [90:28] mother, without genealogy, without [90:30] beginning of days or end of life, [90:32] resembling the son of God, he remains a [90:34] priest forever. Just think how great he [90:37] was. Even the patriarch Abraham gave him [90:39] a tenth of the plunder. Now the law [90:42] requires that the descendants of Levi [90:45] who become priests that they collect the [90:47] tenth from the people, that is from [90:49] their fellow Israelites. And even though [90:52] they are also are descended from [90:54] Abraham. This man however did not trace [90:56] his descent from Levi. Yet he collected [90:59] a tenth from Abraham and blessed him who [91:02] had the promises. [91:06] Yeshua is not born from Levi. He's born [91:08] from Judah. [91:10] That's why he's like Mkisedc because [91:12] Mkisedc wasn't born from Levi either. [91:14] There was no Levi. [91:16] But he was allowed to be king and priest [91:18] not from Levi. That's the same aspects [91:22] that Yeshua is carrying. Our key phrase [91:25] tonight, God is showing us that the [91:28] Messiah will be both king and priest. [91:32] This covenant meal is is revealing not [91:35] just the history of the war and how [91:37] Abraham got sucked into it. [91:40] It's really a prophetic picture drawing [91:44] of what you and I should be anticipating [91:47] the Messiah will be like. [91:50] It's a prophecy [91:52] at its core. It's telling us when you [91:56] are looking for the Messiah, what it [91:58] will look like is he will be a king and [92:00] priest and he will not be born from [92:03] Levi. It's the text is just laying it [92:05] out really clear. He's not going to be [92:07] from Levi. So when Yeshua is born in [92:10] Bethlehem and he's born to the tribe of [92:13] Judah according to other prophecies [92:17] and the wise men come and they start to [92:19] proclaim him as king already for which [92:21] Herod was so afraid [92:24] that's what's putting him in the order [92:25] of MelkiseDC. He's going to be the king. [92:28] He's going to be a priest but he's not [92:29] going to be from Levi. And that prophecy [92:31] in its original state is coming from [92:33] Genesis 14. The covenant table. It's not [92:35] coming from Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel. [92:38] It's coming from here. Genesis 14. [92:43] Let's make a few comments about this [92:45] order of MelkiseDC. First, MelkiseDC [92:49] predated the Levitical priesthood and [92:51] all of its regulations. [92:53] So, he did not need to be a Levite in [92:55] order to be the priest of God most high. [92:58] Similarly, Yeshua was born from Judah, [93:01] not from Levi. Second, [93:05] because Yeshua had no sin, therefore he [93:08] was not subjected to the priesthood [93:10] through Levi, but rather was eligible, [93:13] as all firstborn sons would have been [93:16] eligible for the priesthood prior to the [93:18] golden calf incident, where the [93:20] priesthood was narrowed to Levi only. [93:23] Friends, I've taught you this before. [93:24] Listen, when Israel first came out of [93:26] Egypt, because God spared all the [93:29] firstborn sons, what he said was, "Every [93:32] tribe owes me their firstborn son." [93:35] Every tribe. And I'm going to take those [93:37] firstborn sons and they're going to be [93:39] my priests. [93:41] That's the original layout. But when [93:44] Israel [93:46] built the bo the golden calf and bowed [93:48] down to that idolatry when Moses came [93:50] back down from the mountain he said this [93:53] is idolatrous who's going to stand with [93:56] me against it only the Levites stood [93:59] forward and because only the Levites [94:01] stood forward that day the Lord took the [94:04] priesthood away from everybody else and [94:06] he said then only Levi gets it [94:12] because of their sin. It went to Levi. [94:17] But Yeshua had no sin. He's not [94:20] subjected to that narrowness of tribe. [94:24] Therefore, Yeshua is in the pre-existent [94:27] state of the firstborn sons from all the [94:30] tribes would be the priests. [94:34] That's the order of Melkisedc. [94:36] He's the firstborn of God. [94:39] He's the firstborn of Yseph and Miriam. [94:44] He's from the tribe of Judah. It makes [94:46] him eligible. Everything in this story [94:49] makes him eligible to be a priest in [94:52] that order of Melkisedc. And then he's [94:55] also a king. [94:58] Let's close with a couple of thoughts [95:00] here. What significant thing or things [95:03] happened at this covenant table? Well, [95:05] symbolically, Abram and Melkazedc took [95:08] the suaton, the elements of the Lord's [95:11] supper together. I believe they took it [95:13] together. And whether or not Abram knew [95:16] what they were doing, Melkazedc [95:18] definitely knew what they were doing. [95:22] Then they shared a blessing over Abram [95:25] for which only a priest could give, [95:28] which is what the Lord later told Aaron, [95:30] the high priest, to speak over the [95:32] people of Israel. So, he's serving [95:35] not only the covenant within the meal, [95:38] but he's serving as priest for Abram. [95:42] Then the tithe of course was given as [95:44] we've mentioned. So either [95:47] Abram was interacting with the Lord [95:48] himself in the flesh in the form of [95:51] MelkiseDC. [95:54] That wouldn't be too far out there since [95:56] we called him the king of righteousness [95:58] and he's the king of the city called [95:59] peace. this prince of peace who had no [96:02] beginning, no end, no genealogy. We [96:04] don't know his his real parents. He's a [96:06] king and priest. He's not from Levi and [96:08] is without sin. That connection is not a [96:11] hard one to make. [96:13] So either Abram is fellowshipping with [96:16] the Lord and making covenant with him [96:18] again [96:20] or at least God is highlighting that [96:22] MelkiseDC was a foreshadowing [96:25] of the coming of the Messiah. [96:28] It's one of these two. It's either him [96:31] or the foreshadowing of him. [96:34] But either way, Abram shared that [96:36] covenant table with him. [96:39] Now, we know what to look for in the [96:41] Messiah, [96:42] a non-levite high priest who predated [96:44] the Levite sin, [96:48] the sin of Israel that gave Levite [96:52] only priesthood, [96:54] someone who could be both king and [96:55] priest. [96:57] So either Abram knew he was the Lord or [97:00] he felt he was from the Lord. [97:06] And if he is the Lord, [97:09] this would be the second earliest [97:12] manifestation after the Garden of Eden. [97:17] Now he talked to Noah, but it it talks [97:19] about his voice. We don't know that Noah [97:21] ever saw him. [97:24] So if MelkiseDC is Yeshua, [97:27] it seems he fits all the categories. [97:31] This would be the second [97:33] iteration of Yeshua showing up in the [97:36] physical flesh as God on earth. [97:40] I've always looked at it in an [97:41] interesting way [music] because [97:46] Abram met Yeshua in or at least his [97:51] voice in Genesis [music] 12 and 13. And [97:53] now again in 14, he recognizes the [97:56] voice. He recognizes this the statements [97:59] and the wisdom and the blessing and [98:00] [music] the and the purpose. He [98:02] recognizes all of it. [98:04] Whether or not he he recognized the [98:07] physical look of Melkisedc, the king of [98:10] Salem [98:12] and as a foreshadowing element because [98:15] there's lots of foreshadowing moments or [98:18] prototypes of the Messiah in the Bible. [98:22] Joseph [music] is one. King David is [98:25] one. [98:27] Isaac is one. [98:29] What's interesting here is Isaac is not [98:31] born yet. So Melkazedc becomes one of [98:34] the earliest foreshadowings [music] [98:37] or you know the the pre-existent figures [98:41] of what the Messiah will become, what [98:43] the Messiah will be. [98:46] So interesting. [98:48] This little bread and wine, this [98:50] blessing and tithe, this covenant table, [98:54] it shifted [98:55] so many things. [98:58] It it it made an order of priesthood. [99:01] This is what I'm talking about. It seems [99:03] small, but look what it does. It shifts [99:06] the order of the priesthood, [99:09] which now makes Yeshua eligible to be [99:12] our high priest. It gives us a [99:14] foreshadowing. So, we're going to [99:16] recognize the Messiah. It's a prophetic [99:18] word long before there were prophetic [99:21] [music] writings. [99:24] And I believe that Abraham recognized [99:26] this person, which is why he took the [99:29] blessing and rejected [music] everyone [99:30] else's. [99:33] And he said to the other kings, "I don't [99:35] want to owe you anything, but to [99:37] MelkiseDC, [music] I owe you [99:39] everything." [99:43] Let's pray. [99:46] Lord, we can learn so many things from [99:48] this opening text, Genesis 14. Whether [99:52] it was you or whether we're supposed to [99:55] be learning about the foreshadowing of [99:58] you, what we're asking tonight is that
[100:01] we don't miss these crucial [music]
[100:04] history changing moments when we're in
[100:07] your presence reading your word. We can
[100:09] easily fly by this story and we can say
[100:12] all the kings and the fighting and he he
[100:13] rescued Lot and this weird guy that no
[100:16] one knew about. He came and that that
[100:18] could be one way to go. But you altered
[100:21] history right here. You altered
[100:24] salvation [music] history right here in
[100:27] the story at this covenant table. Would
[100:31] you help us, Holy Spirit, to glean all
[100:33] of these moments
[100:35] as we study, [music] as we worship, as
[100:36] we meditate on your word
[100:40] that every time we we see these crucial
[100:43] moments that we are applying to our life
[100:45] what we've learned.
[100:47] We're looking forward, Lord, to how much
[100:48] you want to teach us in this series all
[100:50] these incredible encounters [music]
[100:52] and what they mean and what changes.
[100:55] But what we do proclaim tonight with
[100:58] 100% certainty [music] is that Yeshua,
[101:00] you are our king and priest.
[101:04] You are without number of days.
[101:07] You are the unccreated.
[101:10] You are the uncaused cause.
[101:15] You are the one that gives blessing,
[101:17] creates covenant. And it is our pleasure
[101:22] to give you the tithe and to owe you
[101:24] [music] everything.
[101:26] Hear our prayer. Hear our worship
[101:27] tonight.
[101:29] Yeshua, we pray. Amen. Amen. Let's stand
[101:31] and celebrate who Yeshua is.
[101:34] >> Amen. Thank [music] you, Pastor Chad.
[101:36] Let's stand and celebrate our King.
[101:38] We're going to sing that song again. Who
[101:40] is this King of Glory? We've been
[101:42] talking about it all night. Let's sing
[101:44] it again with all our hearts. Here we
[101:46] go.

[106:15] [music and singing]
[106:21] >> Hallelujah.
[106:26] [music]
[106:29] Amen.
[106:31] Wow. That's a hard act to follow.
[106:34] such a an amazing message and I don't
[106:37] think I've ever heard that before. So,
[106:40] Pastor Chad, thank you for unpacking
[106:41] those truths for us. And I thought as I
[106:45] was listening to this new revelation, I
[106:49] thought, "Wow, it's always been there
[106:51] right in front of me, right in the word.
[106:54] I I just never dug it out before." And I
[106:57] thought, why does why does God do that?
[106:58] Why does he tuck things in there? It's
[107:01] truths about who he is, truths about uh
[107:06] his uh future salvation. He wants us to
[107:09] know those truths, but why are they kind
[107:12] of tucked in there? And then I had this
[107:14] thought. God wants us to dig. He wants
[107:18] it's his invitation. Come dig in my
[107:21] word, in my in my uh sandbox. Come
[107:25] discover the treasures that I have
[107:27] there. And uh the author in Heb Proverbs
[107:31] says the same thing to us. Get wisdom.
[107:34] Get understanding.
[107:36] Do not forget my words or turn away from
[107:39] them. Whatever you do, get wisdom. Get
[107:41] understanding. So would you take that
[107:44] challenge from me tonight that God wants
[107:47] you to dig in his sandbox, in his great
[107:51] amazing word? There's so many wonderful
[107:53] truths there. And so God, we ask that
[107:56] you would give us that courageous heart
[107:59] to start digging. Even though we don't
[108:01] know what we're going to find, God, we
[108:04] pray that you would continue to allow us
[108:06] to find more of you, more about you,
[108:10] more relationship with you, more truths
[108:12] to apply to our lives. We ask that you'd
[108:16] give us the the skill and the ability
[108:18] and the time and the courage to dive
[108:21] into your word even though we feel
[108:24] awkward sometimes. Give us courage to
[108:26] dig there. Thank you for the truths that
[108:29] we learn tonight. Yeshua that you are
[108:32] our king and our priest that you cover
[108:35] us and you protect us and you intercede
[108:38] for us. Yeshua, we say thank you. You
[108:41] are a good God. We say that in Yeshua's
[108:44] name. Amen.
[108:46] >> Amen. Well, it was such a great time
[108:48] together tonight. And we want to invite
[108:50] you if you would like prayer, our prayer
[108:52] team will be down here in the front. As
[108:54] well as if you want prayer into a
[108:56] specific area a little bit deeper, our
[108:59] deeper connection team will be right up
[109:01] in the uh lobby area in those small
[109:04] rooms off to the side. You can just go
[109:06] in there and two or three people will
[109:07] gather around. whatever that prayer need
[109:10] is, this is a great time to get those
[109:12] prayers answered by the Lord. So, the
[109:15] deeper connection team will be there.
