Transcript [00:04] [music] [00:10] Well, shalom, dear friends. Pastor Chad [00:12] here. Welcome back to King's Community [00:15] Live right here in our Jerusalem studio. [00:17] So happy to have you today. What an [00:19] honor to spend uh this next season of [00:22] time tonight uh talking about Yeshua, [00:24] talking about the word of God, getting [00:26] updated together, worshiping together. [00:28] It's going to be a wonderful time. So, [00:30] thank you for joining us uh as we [00:32] prepare for our community service uh [00:35] here in just a few minutes. As always, [00:37] if you have any prayer requests, you can [00:39] send them to us at we praykj.org. [00:42] And don't forget uh just so you can keep [00:45] up with a lot of our media content, go [00:47] to the core.km.network. [00:50] You can find all of our sermons, our [00:52] leadership training classes, the [00:54] disciplehip classes, new worship music [00:56] in Hebrew, our podcasts, and much more [00:58] there on that site, the core.km.network. [01:03] Speaking of the podcast, uh, one of the [01:05] podcasts we do, and it will, you can [01:07] find it on the core as well, is [01:10] realities. Uh, and our host of course is [01:12] Stephano. You will see Stephano most [01:14] often on Sundays uh, during the [01:17] broadcast. He's usually playing the [01:19] keyboards. That's Pastor Stephano. Why [01:21] do I call him Pastor Stephano? Because [01:22] he not only serves here at the Jerusalem [01:25] campus, but he's the main leader. He's [01:27] the main pastor at the King of Kings [01:29] Modí campus in location with his wife [01:32] Joanna. They are they're doing a [01:34] fabulous job. They're growing very fast [01:36] over there as well. But Stephano is the [01:38] host of Israel's podcast. You can check [01:40] him out. And we have a couple of more [01:42] episodes. I know we're we're recording [01:44] this coming week. It's on my schedule. [01:46] So, I look forward to putting out some [01:47] fresh stuff for everybody on the core [01:50] called Israelities. So, you can check [01:52] that out. So much going on right now. [01:55] Um, we're less than a month away from [01:57] the pulim holiday. So, hopefully you're [02:00] getting in the in the mode of studying [02:02] the book of Esther, learning about how [02:05] God delivered his people. I know we have [02:07] a lot of big events going on here in [02:08] Israel, especially here at King of Kings [02:10] Community Jerusalem. We typically do [02:13] have a costume poem party. Uh this year [02:17] our youth program is going to prepare a [02:20] play for us from the book of Esther. [02:22] They did it last year and last year was [02:24] wonderful. The theme was the 70s and [02:27] this year the theme is the '9s. So we'll [02:30] see how that changes the language, the [02:32] dressing style, the dance styles during [02:34] their dance numbers and much more. But [02:37] hopefully you're already in preparation [02:38] for that. Let's do a little bit of [02:40] current events and what is going on with [02:43] Iran. Now listen, this is not easy. Um [02:48] here I get a lot of questions and thank [02:49] you for asking the questions. What does [02:51] it feel like in the land? What is the [02:54] news on the ground? What do you think's [02:56] going to happen with Iran? Um it's it's [02:59] all too hard for us to gauge. I I do [03:02] know if you haven't heard that that the [03:04] US had shot down several Iranian drones [03:07] over the weekend and then we found out [03:09] that um that a few of the fuel tankers [03:12] were taken hostage in in the uh in the [03:14] waterway there in the canal uh headed up [03:17] to the Red Sea and uh so tensions are [03:20] still very high as you can imagine. [03:24] President Trump from the United States [03:26] has has said that he he met he and his [03:28] team met in I believe it was Oman this [03:30] this past week. Um and they met to [03:33] discuss you know disarming the nuclear [03:36] part of Iran, but they came away from [03:38] the meeting with two different stories. [03:40] Uh and it doesn't look like either [03:42] position has changed too much. But [03:44] today, the Israeli government put out a [03:47] few statements that that indicated they [03:50] they were concerned that Iran had [03:52] already replaced their nuclear [03:54] capabilities from last June. They felt [03:57] like they were approaching the red line [03:58] again. And if the allies of Israel, [04:02] primarily the United States in this [04:03] instance, was not going to act with [04:06] them, that Israel was willing to act on [04:09] their own um in order to destabilize the [04:12] Iranian nuclear threat. That's all we've [04:15] got on our side. We're not getting any [04:17] like super secret intelligence here. [04:20] We're probably hearing a lot of what [04:21] you're hearing. Um but what it feels [04:23] like on the ground, I do get asked that [04:25] a lot. I I think it's because we we in [04:28] Israel, we're constantly in a state of [04:31] this terror attack happened and that [04:33] person was killed and this person [04:34] crossed the border and this is the [04:36] danger and this bomb went off. Um and [04:39] then the two plus years of the war on [04:41] our borders, it can feel like a numbing [04:45] um attribute that we're that we we feel [04:48] the numbness sometimes. And so even [04:49] though when you hear a big story until [04:51] it actually hits, I don't know that [04:54] there's been a lot of reactions here um [04:56] here in in the land about it, I think [04:58] we're all just waiting. We're tapping [05:00] into all of our Miloim, that's the uh [05:02] the reserve soldiers in Israel and [05:05] asking them what do they know? We're [05:07] praying for a lot of our leaders in King [05:08] of Kings family as they are both in and [05:11] out of their active duty. And we're [05:13] praying for the whole region for peace. [05:15] Uh just we don't we don't want to be [05:16] part of any of this. and yet sometimes [05:19] it feels like it's thrust upon us and we [05:21] have to take action. So, thank you for [05:23] your prayers. Let's keep praying that [05:25] God would really bring down the [05:28] temperature in the region. We'd love to [05:31] have a time of peace. It's been a long [05:32] time and I can tell you that uh that the [05:35] Israelis are quite tired. Now, in the [05:39] middle of all that, you try to find a [05:41] few moments of doing something fun, [05:44] maybe with your family, maybe with your [05:45] community. I mentioned the Porum party. [05:47] That's something fun with the community. [05:49] Um, but but maybe something else beyond [05:51] that, something with the broader uh [05:53] peoplehood of Israel. Well, this past [05:55] Friday, [05:57] we had the annual Dead Sea Marathon. So, [06:00] those of you that have visited Israel, [06:01] you know about the Dead Sea, the Salt [06:03] Sea, and uh the water comes in, but [06:06] there's no outflow. So, all the minerals [06:08] live in the Dead Sea, and uh and nothing [06:11] else can live there. No living thing can [06:12] live there. So at the Dead Sea, they [06:15] built this this salt land bridge out [06:18] into the water and they they do the [06:20] marathon there and you can pick five [06:22] kilometers, 10, 15, and so on. Well, [06:25] several of the people from King of Kings [06:27] went this past week just to be part of [06:29] the broader community. I think that's a [06:31] great way to be in the marketplace to [06:33] meet new people. Um, and so I just want [06:35] to congratulate all of them. Everybody [06:36] finished, so praise the Lord. Some of [06:38] them ran, some of them walked, some of [06:39] them did a hybrid. But from what I can [06:41] tell, everyone I've asked from King of [06:43] Kings that went to be part of the Dead [06:45] Sea Marathon, I said to them, "Were you [06:47] sore?" [06:49] And so far, 100%. Everyone that I've [06:51] asked, they said they were sore. Some [06:53] were sore in the in the quad, front of [06:55] the legs, some in the calves, some in [06:56] the hips, the ankles, etc. Well, because [06:59] you're running on a surface that you're [07:01] not usually training on, right? You [07:02] might train on a treadmill, you might [07:03] train on concrete or cobblestone. [07:06] There's a lot here in Israel. Um, but [07:08] you're never training on salt. And so [07:10] that that that footing is a little [07:12] different. But congratulations. Always [07:14] love it when the King of Kings family [07:15] does something healthy, something [07:16] productive, and something that's [07:18] engaging in the broader community. So, [07:20] congratulations, guys. Uh, eat a banana, [07:23] drink a lot of water, and hydrate. [07:24] You'll get over your soreness very soon. [07:27] I want to answer some of the questions [07:28] that have been sent to us recently. Uh I [07:31] was asked to comment on some of the most [07:34] famous Jewish writings, historical [07:36] Jewish writings in Judaism. And so I [07:38] just want to take a few moments to [07:40] mention a few of them and what our [07:42] relationship to those writings should be [07:45] or at least my opinion of it. Of course, [07:47] we start with the oral tradition uh that [07:50] came from God to Adam and Eve, passed [07:51] down to Cain and Abel. We know that they [07:54] knew right from wrong because they ate [07:56] from the tree of the knowledge of good [07:57] and evil. But also we know that there [08:00] was an oral tradition passed on because [08:02] God says to Cain, "Why are you so [08:04] downtrodden? If you do what is right, [08:07] will your uh will your offering not be [08:09] accepted?" So Cain knew what was right. [08:11] And he knew what was right based on what [08:13] his parents had taught him from the oral [08:15] tradition that came down from God. We [08:18] also know that Noah, as you fast forward [08:20] to Genesis chapter 6, Noah knew from [08:24] that same tradition um what the [08:26] difference between a proper sacrifice [08:29] and a non-proper sacrifice was. He knew [08:31] the difference between clean and unclean [08:33] animals as well. So, he had to learn [08:34] that from somewhere. He didn't get that [08:36] from the tree of the knowledge of good [08:37] and evil. That's not a necessarily a [08:39] good and evil thing. It's more of the [08:41] oral tradition passed on. Abraham [08:43] certainly knew it. Uh Genesis chapter 26 [08:47] talks about God blessed Abraham because [08:49] Abraham obeyed all of the commandments, [08:51] laws, statutes, and decrees that God had [08:53] given him. So Abraham had this as well. [08:55] And all of that predates the Torah. Now, [08:58] when we get to Moses and the children of [08:59] Israel, we finally get something that's [09:01] that's being written down. The first [09:04] pass we call the book of the covenant. [09:06] You'll find that in the uh the book of [09:08] Exodus. They talk about the book of the [09:10] covenant. And then you have the golden [09:12] calf incident and it changes who the [09:14] priests are going to be and it changes [09:16] from the firstborn from every tribe to [09:19] only Levites could be the priests and [09:21] and at that point there had to be a [09:23] tweak in what we know of today as the [09:26] priestly regulations where only the [09:28] Levites were going to be the priests. So [09:30] that was one little change. I don't [09:32] think anything else was changed in the [09:34] law. But those are the commandments that [09:37] started the Torah. And we know that it [09:41] was added to later because the history [09:43] of Israel in the desert had not happened [09:46] yet when it was first given on Mount Si. [09:49] So it was collected over time and then [09:52] finally added the commentary, the [09:54] history, the journey, the lessons that [09:57] they learned in the next 40 years into [09:59] what we now know of as the five books of [10:02] Moses or today's Torah. We look at the [10:06] Torah as the absolute authority of all [10:09] of the writings because we know that [10:11] even the prophets and the ketuim, the [10:13] writings, the Yeshua's lessons himself, [10:16] the disciples and apostles, everyone [10:18] else wrote based on what the foundations [10:21] were in the Torah. So the Torah becomes [10:23] for us absolute authority. Now that [10:26] leads us to the prophets, the writings, [10:29] the New Testament and and again for us [10:31] the complete Bible is absolute authority [10:34] because it all agrees together. Listen, [10:37] 40 different authors, 66 different [10:39] books, over 1600 years written under the [10:42] influence of the Holy Spirit and not one [10:45] contradiction found in the Bible. That's [10:47] a miracle. And therefore the entirety of [10:49] today's Bible, Genesis to Revelation, we [10:52] put at the highest level of authority. [10:55] There are other books you can look at. [10:57] Some of the books are mentioned in the [10:58] Bible. The books of the Kings, it would [11:01] be good to study that if we had a copy [11:03] of it. Uh the book of the wars of [11:05] Israel, again mentioned in the Bible, we [11:07] don't have a copy. The book of Enoch, [11:09] there's been some uncovered uh evidences [11:12] that the book of Enoch had a little bit [11:14] of a controversy. So be careful there in [11:17] your relationship to the book of Enoch. [11:19] But there are other writings that are [11:22] important to historical Judaism. [11:24] Things like the Mishnet Torah written by [11:27] Mmonities in the 1100s in Spain where he [11:30] tried to go back to the original list of [11:32] laws, the 613 laws without the [11:35] commentary, without the history, right? [11:37] W without the journey in the desert, [11:39] just get back to the laws. And he's the [11:40] first one that wrote that down. It was [11:42] reiterated again later about a hundred [11:44] years later in France. Um and this book [11:47] is called the Sephar Goddard. The Sephra [11:50] Goddoll has basically the same list of [11:53] laws that manades came up with in the [11:57] 1100s. This is in the 1200s though. So [11:59] one was written in Spanish uh language [12:02] of the time and one was written in the [12:04] French language of the time. There are [12:06] other important books like the Talmud. [12:09] Now, the Talmud is something that we [12:13] might want to be careful for. It's an [12:15] authority within Orthodox Judaism, but [12:18] not necessarily authority within [12:19] Messianic Judaism. Why? Because the [12:22] Talmud was the supposed to be the oral [12:25] tradition codified and written down. The [12:28] first half of it is is called the Mishna [12:31] and it was codified in the 200s AD. And [12:35] the second part is called the Gomorrah [12:37] and it was codified and written down uh [12:39] in in the 400s AD. Some of the oldest [12:42] surviving copies of the Talmud, both the [12:44] Jerusalem Talmud and the Babylonian [12:46] Talmud, 400 and 600 AD respectfully. [12:50] But even though it contains much of the [12:54] original oral tradition of God and the [12:56] forefathers, [12:58] but then you have thousands of years of [12:59] added commentary, debates, discussions, [13:02] arguments, halaka, all of those things [13:05] are put into the Talmud, [13:08] but not by people who were believers and [13:11] not by people who were under the leading [13:12] of the Holy Spirit. So be careful for [13:14] the Talmud. other writings that you [13:16] might want to be aware of. The topha was [13:19] a later addition to the Talmud writings [13:22] of the Mishna. Some things that they [13:23] left out that they wanted to put in [13:24] later. Uh we also have an important book [13:26] called the Shuhan. The Shuhan is is [13:30] basically not um dealing with what is [13:33] the law like the Mishna Torah. It's [13:36] dealing with the how do you walk out and [13:39] obey the law. And so that's why it [13:41] becomes very important in rabbitic [13:43] Judaism. Again, cautious to the [13:46] Messianic Jews, not something we embrace [13:47] as authority, but it can be an [13:50] interesting read. I'll give you one [13:52] more. Uh, the PK of vote. The PK of vote [13:56] is a book that uh focuses on the moral [14:00] implications and the principles behind [14:02] every law. Not necessarily how do you [14:04] obey it, but why did God give it and [14:06] what should our heart attitude be toward [14:08] the laws of God. So in that case, [14:10] although proceeding with caution, we can [14:13] glean a lot of good things from that. [14:15] Many other books you can look at. You [14:17] could look at the the book of the [14:18] Jubilees, um the book of the Hallelujah, [14:20] and many other great writings. But just [14:22] be careful if it isn't written by people [14:26] that believe in Yeshua and under the [14:28] Holy Spirit influence. We want to [14:30] proceed with caution. Listen, we have a [14:32] great lineup tonight for worship and the [14:34] word. We're going to continue in our [14:35] covenant table series. You can get your [14:37] Bibles ready uh in Genesis chapter 42. I [14:41] can't wait to see you. Let's go worship [14:42] together. [14:58] Good evening and welcome. [music] Stand [15:00] to your feet as you we worship together. [15:03] Amen. [15:11] >> [music] [15:20] [music] [15:25] >> When I'm [music and singing] in the [15:27] roughest water, I won't go under. [15:30] [music and singing] [15:31] I won't drown. [15:34] When I'm [15:35] under [music] my head, [singing] [15:38] I know that you won't let me down. [15:42] And when I'm broken [15:46] and down to nothing, [15:50] I know [music] that you are always [15:53] [singing] up to something good. [15:58] I know that you are always up [music] to [16:02] something [singing] good. [16:07] You'll make [music] the way whatever it [16:10] takes. Nothing you love [16:12] [music and singing] won't endure. I know [16:15] that you are always [music] [16:18] something [singing] good. [16:28] [music] [16:31] You go before me. You are here [16:35] for I know you'll never leave me. [16:38] [music] [16:39] Your love surrounds me. [singing] [16:43] And when I'm [music] broken [16:47] and nothing [16:51] I know [music and singing] that you are [16:53] always [16:55] something. [16:59] Heat. Heat. Heat. [music] [17:02] [singing] [17:09] [music] way. Whatever it takes, nothing [17:14] [singing] won't endure. I know that you [17:17] are always [music and singing] [17:20] something good. [17:24] [music] [17:30] The darkest [singing] night, you are on [17:32] [music] my side. [17:34] You are [singing] always faithful [17:37] through my fear and doubt. You believe [17:40] me out. [17:43] You are [music] always [singing] able to [17:46] darkest night. You are on [music] my [17:49] side. [17:51] You are always able to fear. You will [17:56] [music] lead me up. [17:59] You are always able. [singing] [18:04] >> [music] [18:09] >> I know [music and singing] that you are [18:11] always up to something good. [18:16] [music] [18:17] I know that you are [singing] always up [18:21] to something good. [18:27] [music] [18:28] Whatever it takes, nothing. [18:32] [music and singing] [18:34] I know that you are always [18:38] something [music and singing] good. [18:43] [music] [18:45] [singing] [18:47] There's nothing. [music] [18:50] I know that you always [music] [18:54] something good. [19:00] >> [music] [19:07] [music] [19:09] >> Heat. [19:12] Heat. [19:15] [music] [19:22] >> [music] [19:32] [music] [19:35] >> praise be the weapon that silences [19:37] [music] [19:37] [singing] the end. [19:40] Let praise be the weapon that [19:42] [music and singing] conquers all [19:43] anxiety. [19:45] Let him rise [19:50] the praise arise. [music] [19:54] We sing your name in the darkness [19:56] [music] changes everything. [20:00] We sing with we [music] are your [20:03] victory. [20:05] [singing] [20:10] Let praise. This is what [music] [22:10] heaven sounds like. We praise you. We [22:14] praise you. This is what living. [music] [22:18] This is what freedom feels like. Heat. [22:20] Heat. Heat. [22:24] [music] [22:31] >> [music] [22:33] >> Heat. Heat. [22:39] [music] [22:40] [singing] [22:43] >> [music] [22:50] >> Heat. Heat. [48:27] Good evening, King of Kings family. I am [48:30] so honored to be here reading the para [48:33] with you guys as part of the King of [48:36] Kings youth group. Shout out to them. [48:38] And to our youth group leaders, Stephano [48:41] and Liz. We love you guys. [48:46] Today I'll be reading the para [music] [48:50] the portions from Exodus [48:54] 21 [music] [48:55] verses 1-6. [48:58] It says now these are the ordinances [49:01] which you will set before them. If you [49:04] buy a Hebrew servant he is to serve for [49:07] six years and in the seventh he is to go [49:10] free without payment. [49:13] If he comes in by himself, he is to go [49:16] out by himself. If he [music] was [49:19] married, then his wife will go out with [49:21] him. If his master gave him a wife and [49:25] she bears [music] him sons or daughters, [49:28] the wife and her children will be her [49:30] masters, and he will go free by himself. [49:34] But if the servant plainly states, I [49:37] love my master, my wife, and my [49:39] children, and I will not go out free. [49:42] Then his master is to bring him to God. [49:45] Then take him to a door or to a [49:48] doorpost. His master is superior as his [49:51] ear through an all and he will serve him [49:54] forever. [49:57] >> [music] [49:57] >> Now from the book of Jeremiah 33 [50:03] 25- [music] [50:03] 26 [50:05] says thus says Adonai if I have not made [50:09] my covenant of day and night firm and [50:12] the [music] fixed patterns ordering the [50:14] heavens and earth. Only then would I [50:18] reject the offspring of Jacob and my [50:21] servant David, so that I would not take [50:25] from his offspring rulers over the [50:28] offspring of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. [50:31] For [music] I will restore them from [50:32] their exile and have compassion for [50:34] them. [50:38] Now from the khadesha [50:40] the book of Matthew [50:43] 17:es [music] [50:44] 1 2-9 [50:48] after 6 days Yeshua takes him [music] [50:51] Peter Jacob and John his brother and [50:55] brings them up to a high mountain by [50:57] themselves. [50:59] Now [music] he was transfigured before [51:01] them. His face shone like the sun and [51:04] his clothes became as [music] white as [51:06] the light. And behold, Moses and Elijah [51:10] appeared to them talking with Yeshua. [51:13] Peter responded to Yeshua, "Master, it's [51:16] good for us to be here. If you wish, I [51:19] will make three sukot here, [music] one [51:21] for you, one for Moses, and one for [51:24] Elijah." While he [music] was still [51:26] speaking, suddenly a bright cloud [51:28] overshadowed them. And behold, a voice [51:31] from [music] out of the clouds, saying, [51:33] "This is my son whom I love." with him I [51:37] am well pleased. Listen [music] to him. [51:41] When the disciples heard this, they fell [51:43] face down, terrified. But Yeshua came [51:46] and touched them. "Get up," he said. [51:48] [music] [51:49] "Stop being afraid." And lifting their [51:51] eyes, they saw no one except Yeshua [51:54] alone. [51:56] As they [music] were coming down from [51:57] the mountain, Yeshua commanded them, [52:00] saying, "Do not tell anyone about the [52:02] vision until the Son of Man is raised [52:04] from the dead. [52:06] Amen. [52:08] Let's close in prayer. [52:12] Lord God, thank you so much [music] for [52:14] your word. Thank you so much for the [52:17] amazing father you are. Thank you so [52:19] much [music] for sending you sending us [52:21] your only son to [music] sacrifice [52:24] himself for us. [52:27] Lord, I want to thank you so much for [52:29] the work you have been doing in [music] [52:31] my generation. You see you young women [52:34] and men being [52:38] awakened [music] by your spirit and [52:39] doing amazing work. Lord, I pray that [52:41] you will manifest yourself in our midst, [52:44] [music] [52:44] especially here in the land of Israel. [52:46] Lord, we see many people being [52:50] manifested with your spirit and [52:54] sharing of your word and [52:57] get receiving visions in their dreams. [52:59] Lord, [music] I pray that we will see [53:02] miracles happening in these coming [53:04] years, especially in the midst of this [53:06] generation, Lord. Lord, I also want to [53:09] bring you the lives of our brothers and [53:11] sisters in Iran and Nigeria who are [53:15] being persecuted and who are being [53:17] killed. Lord, I pray that you [music] [53:19] will be with them. Lord, we see how [53:23] strong your church is in those places. [53:25] Lord, we pray that [53:30] all of these these bad things that are [53:33] happening in our world, [music] Lord, [53:34] that you will use those situations to [53:37] bring [53:39] glory and to bring this attention to to [53:42] yourself, Lord, [music] that people will [53:44] see that this is these people being [53:47] freed and they [music] will acknowledge [53:49] that this is your work, [53:52] Lord. [53:54] I pray. [music] Amen. [54:01] [music] [54:04] Thank you, Sophia. Isn't it great to see [54:06] our young generation up there rising up [54:10] to service and minister to us here in [54:12] the congregation? Great job, Sophia. Uh, [54:15] as we transition now, we want to focus [54:17] our hearts on God's tithes and our our [54:20] offerings. Um, in Mark 12:41, [music] [54:24] Yeshua, it says Yeshua sat down opposite [54:26] the treasury and began watching how the [54:29] people were putting money into the [54:30] offering box. Many rich people were [54:32] putting in a lot. Then a poor widow came [54:34] and put in two small copper coins worth [54:37] less than a penny. Calling his disciples [54:39] over, he said to them, "I tell you, this [54:42] poor widow has [music] put in more than [54:44] all those contributing to the box. For [54:46] they all put in from their surplus, but [54:49] she out of her poverty put in everything [54:52] she had, [music] her whole living. So [54:54] Yeshua was trying trying to emphasize [54:56] that [54:57] uh she gave [music] some or some gave [54:59] what they could spared. They had an [55:01] abundance. They just oh god, I'll put [55:02] some in. But she gave what she need [55:04] needed to survive. Um to the world it [55:07] was a a mere penny, but to God it was a [55:10] sacrifice of her whole her whole life. [55:13] So remember, God doesn't look at the [55:14] amount of [music] the tithe or offering, [55:16] the check or the donate button you click [55:18] on. He's looking at your heart to see [55:20] how much trust you have in him. [55:24] Team, you can start passing the baskets [55:26] now. [55:28] Um, and as you give today, don't just [55:31] give from your leftovers. Give in a way [55:34] that requires your trust in God to be [55:37] strong. a way that shows that we trust [55:39] God more than we trust our bank [55:42] accounts. [55:44] Your tithes and offerings go not just to [55:46] building and growing our congregation [55:47] here uh in Jerusalem, but also to the [55:50] borders of Israel and through uh ongoing [55:53] outreaches and ministries uh as well as [55:55] touching people all around the world [55:57] through the greater King of Kings [55:59] ministries network. You can find out [56:01] about all the great ministries that are [56:03] here in Israel and around the world at [56:05] kkm.network. [56:07] network. [63:48] >> You have to be ready for Brazil. [63:51] It's just like when you, you know, you [63:53] tell the the uh poem story, [63:58] there's a person's name in there you [64:00] have to be careful for. You got to be [64:02] ready for it. Hallelujah. Uh [64:05] congratulations to all of those in our [64:08] community who registered for and [64:12] completed the Dead Sea Marathon. Good [64:14] job everybody that did that. [cheering] [64:17] >> [applause] [64:17] >> I did a quick survey and uh it is [64:20] official. Everybody who did the marathon [64:23] is still sore today. I maybe unofficial [64:28] but u but good job. We like to do things [64:30] that are healthy here at the [64:31] congregation. Speaking of that, uh we [64:33] like to offer and connect in ways that [64:35] are outside of only kind of these formal [64:39] service moments. We love to build [64:42] community together, make friendships, [64:44] tie our life together. Tomorrow morning [64:45] is one of those times to do it. It's [64:47] casual. It's relaxed. If you like [64:48] American football, great. 9:00 in the [64:51] morning, come to the celebration center. [64:52] Uh bring your own breakfast or fast. [64:55] That's up to you. Whatever you want to [64:57] do. Uh come and just enjoy the game. [64:59] It's really a community time for us. [65:01] Just like when you're connecting in [65:03] community groups, small groups, home [65:04] groups, or Shabbat at the park or a [65:07] holiday party. Speaking of holiday [65:09] parties, we've got one coming up in just [65:11] a few weeks for the feast of Pim, right? [65:15] We're looking at the book of Esther. Uh [65:17] there'll be games and food that night, [65:20] as well as our youth program is putting [65:22] together a wonderful play that we're [65:23] excited about. [65:25] >> Yep. And the theme, you know, last year [65:27] was so amazing. They did the 70s. This [65:30] year we're going 90s. [65:33] >> So, uh get ready for very clean rap [65:37] music. I it's wasn't easy to find in the [65:41] 90s, but we found it. Right, Simon? We [65:43] found some. Liz Stephano. Okay. I've [65:45] been assured it's all clean. It's good [65:48] for all ages. Hallelujah. Praise the [65:50] Lord. Listen, we've been in our series [65:52] called the covenant table. [65:56] And um the first week we looked at [65:58] Genesis 14, the the meal or the taking [66:02] of the Lord's supper really in the [66:04] priestly blessing from MelkiseDC to [66:06] Abraham. Then we looked at Genesis 18 [66:09] where Abraham meets the three visitors. [66:13] Two are identified as angels, but one is [66:15] identified as Adonai, the Lord, Yu Vave, [66:18] God himself in human flesh. That was [66:21] Abraham's eyewitness account. Last week, [66:24] Pastor Wayne did an amazing job uh [66:26] reviewing for us and really building [66:29] these important elements of Exodus 24 [66:32] about the 70 elders of Israel meeting on [66:34] Mount Si with Yeshua, the Lord, and [66:37] doing what we kn know was the covenant [66:39] of marriage between the Lord and Israel, [66:43] going through all of the relationship [66:47] steps like come out of Egypt. That's not [66:50] a relationship you should be in. [66:53] That's like the wrong boyfriend [66:54] girlfriend over there, right? Come out [66:56] of that. Get over here and I I want to [66:58] make a proposition to you. That's the [67:00] betroal, the courtship phase. And then [67:02] it was God says, "I will do these [67:04] things." That was God saying, "I will [67:06] and I do." And Israel, it's now up to [67:09] you. Will you? And Israel answers in [67:11] that chapter, "Yes, we will do [67:13] everything the Lord says." And it [67:14] completes the marriage. And then they [67:16] have the meal together, the wedding [67:18] supper, and that foreshadows the age to [67:20] come where we have the wedding supper of [67:22] the lamb. You understand? Pastor Wayne [67:24] did such a great job last week. Tonight, [67:27] I want to look at the uh story of Joseph [67:30] and his brothers. I'm going to call this [67:33] Joseph and the players, and we're going [67:35] to be in Genesis 42. So, if you grab [67:37] your Bibles or your devices, turn with [67:39] me to Genesis 42. Genesis 42. [67:44] Now, to get started, just in case [67:46] there's maybe some tonight that are [67:48] young in the faith, do a a quick summary [67:50] of the story of Joseph. This is the [67:53] patriarchs, you know, Abraham and Isaac, [67:55] and then Jacob. And Jacob has the four [67:59] wives. They end up being the four wives. [68:01] And with those four wives, he has 12 [68:03] sons. There's also daughters, but they [68:05] were the 12 sons. The 12 sons become the [68:08] 12 tribes of Israel. We understand that. [68:10] But when they're younger and they're [68:11] still here on earth, uh, in in like [68:14] their earthly story, uh, Joseph is born [68:19] of of of Rachel. [68:22] And Rachel is uh, Jacob's favorite of [68:26] the wives. Now, that's not great in [68:29] marriage counseling. It's not a [68:30] direction you want to go, but he decided [68:33] to give it a shot. Okay? And, uh, maybe [68:36] it backfired a little bit, but he it [68:38] says he loved Rachel more. He worked for [68:40] Rachel. Rachel was the goal from the [68:42] beginning. The other three wives were [68:44] bonuses. I like to call them bonuses. [68:47] That's good. [68:49] Could have helped Jacob on that one a [68:50] little bit. [68:52] And but but he he loves Rachel and and [68:55] Joseph [68:57] and Benjamin are born of Rachel. So he [69:00] has this affection for these boys [69:01] different than the other ones. [69:04] Now when it comes to Joseph, we know [69:06] that there was the coat of many colors, [69:08] the special gifts. He he always kept him [69:10] close to home. Resentment built up with [69:13] the other brothers who were older, born [69:15] of the other wives. They realized that [69:17] he had this favor on Joseph unlike the [69:19] rest of them. And then even when [69:22] tensions were high and they didn't [69:23] really like Joseph, he was a little bit [69:25] of a bug. [69:27] That's what we say in my family. We say, [69:30] "Don't be a bug." [69:32] I'm not going to say who we say that to. [69:35] You think we would say to the littlest [69:36] one, "Ah, not always." [69:40] So, Joseph was a little bit of a bug. [69:42] And and right when the brother's [69:45] emotions were at their height, he [69:47] decides he's going to share with them a [69:50] dream that he had from God. And in that [69:53] moment of sharing the dream, of course, [69:54] we have the the stalks of wheat and [69:56] grain and all these other stalks bow [69:59] down to him. [70:01] He decides to share that. I don't know [70:04] if that was wisdom, but he decided to [70:05] share. Then he says, "Guys, I got one [70:07] even better than that. Listen, last [70:08] night I'm going to double down on this. [70:11] Sun and the stars and the moon and every [70:13] everybody bowed down to me." So, y'all [70:16] take that. Enjoy that interpretation [70:18] over dinner. Tell me what you think. [70:21] It created more anger in the brothers [70:23] and eventually they were out in the [70:25] fields and and and Jacob sends Joseph to [70:28] go see the brothers and to bring them [70:30] something. They bring them and the [70:32] brothers say, "Aha, this is our chance." [70:36] Finally, dad is not around. Let's let's [70:40] kill him. [70:41] That's got to be the solution to a bad [70:43] dream. I mean, kill him. [70:46] and and and and and they decide, well, [70:48] no, we're not going to kill him and [70:49] we're going to throw him in this pit and [70:50] let him die in there. And then the one [70:52] says, "No, don't do that." And then the [70:53] slave traders are coming by. Let's sell [70:55] him as a slave. So they do. They sold [70:57] him as a slave. Joseph is taken to [70:59] Egypt. He he first is bought by Piphar, [71:03] one of the officials in Egypt, and he [71:04] gets accused of Piphar's wife of of of a [71:08] sexual impropriy, which he didn't do. [71:11] who was a false accusation, but still to [71:13] save her own reputation because she's [71:15] the one that came on to him. She lies [71:18] about him. They believe her. He goes to [71:20] prison. In prison, he's calling out to [71:23] the Lord. His giftings are still [71:25] working. Dreams, interpretation still [71:27] going on. Your giftings never leave you. [71:30] No matter where you are, they're still [71:32] with you. So, he uses his giftings. He [71:35] gets brought back to the palace. He [71:37] interprets Pharaoh's dreams. He gets put [71:40] in charge of all of Egypt. [71:43] Great stories, you know, from from the [71:45] pit to the palace, right? [71:48] And all the while as he's growing in in [71:51] power and authority and stature over in [71:54] Israel, there's a famine. And now Jacob [71:57] and the other boys who they have lied to [71:59] their dad about, they said that an [72:02] animal attacked Joseph and that's how he [72:04] died. That's not the truth. [72:06] So Jacob thinks his son is dead. [72:09] But there's a famine. So he says, [72:11] "Listen, I know they have food in Egypt. [72:13] Go to Egypt and get me some food. [72:18] But you're not going to take baby [72:19] Benjamin with you." [72:22] He's the last son of my beloved Rachel. [72:24] He's staying with me. So the other 10 [72:26] brothers, they go. Remember, he thinks [72:27] Joseph's dead. He keeps Benjamin. The [72:29] other 10, they go. [72:33] Now, [72:35] when they first meet Joseph, he [72:38] he he sets up this [72:41] trap, if you will, and I want to pick it [72:43] up right there. Right? I call it the [72:45] setup. Genesis 42:8-9. [72:49] Although Joseph recognized his brothers, [72:52] they did not recognize him. Then he [72:55] remembered his dreams about them and [72:57] said to them, "You are spies. you have [73:00] come to see where our land is [73:03] unprotected. [73:05] What's unique here is Joseph recognized [73:07] them. He knew they weren't spies. [73:09] But he's decided to play a little game [73:12] with them and he says, "I know you're [73:14] not spies, but" and he's looking right [73:16] at them like, "Wouldn't that be weird? [73:18] You're staring at I mean, I've done it, [73:20] guys. Forgive me if I've done it to some [73:21] of you. I know I've seen you in the [73:24] mall. I've seen you on Jaffa Street. And [73:27] if I don't have my glasses on, I don't [73:29] know who you are exactly. [73:32] I can see a figure coming to me and it [73:34] looks like a friendly figure, [73:37] but I'm not sure who it is. [73:40] Forgive me for that. But Joseph sees [73:43] them. He knows who they are. And he [73:46] recognizes in their eyes that they don't [73:48] recognize him. Oh, he's got all the [73:50] cards. Now, you know, when you know [73:53] something that the other person doesn't [73:54] know, you got all the cards. So he [73:56] decides to play the well you're a spies [73:58] and no I'm not and yes you are and [74:00] you're going to try to hurt our country [74:04] and [74:06] Joseph realized in counting the brothers [74:08] that Benjamin was missing. Now remember [74:11] that's his full brother. Now for those [74:13] of you in the audience who maybe you you [74:15] you came from a wonderful family [74:17] background and you don't understand what [74:18] a broken family is like. Maybe you don't [74:20] understand. I came from divorced [74:23] families on both sides. I have a full [74:25] sister. She's probably watching. Trish, [74:28] I love you. I have a half sister. I have [74:32] a half brother. I have an adopted [74:35] brother. And I have two stepbros, [74:38] right? Like all from a whole bunch of [74:39] different people. I feel like like Jacob [74:40] and the wives, you know what I mean? [74:41] Like I I've got them coming from [74:43] everywhere. But I understand what it's [74:44] like because you have some that you know [74:47] the parents are a little bit different [74:48] and then you've got the one like uh like [74:52] Benjamin where Joseph knows that's my [74:54] father and my mother is is a tight. So [74:58] he surveys and he says you don't [74:59] recognize me. I'm going to play my cards [75:01] here and you don't have Benjamin. Oh my [75:03] goodness. Where's my brother? Where's [75:04] Benjamin? So he devises the setup and [75:07] the plan and look at verse 15. [75:11] And this is how you will be tested. He [75:13] calls them spies. You're going to be [75:15] tested. And as surely as Pharaoh lives, [75:17] you will not leave this place unless [75:18] your youngest brother comes here. [75:22] Isn't that funny? [75:24] He's going to make a deal. He's going to [75:26] say, "All right, listen. I put pressure [75:28] on you, but the deal to get you out of [75:30] the this problem is you go get your [75:32] brother." And immediately Ruben, the [75:34] oldest brother in the bunch, he knows [75:38] this is a problem. Like as soon as it's [75:40] he Joseph says it, "Go get your [75:42] brother." He goes, "Oh, this is going to [75:43] be a problem." Because he knows when he [75:46] gets home to Jacob, Jacob's not letting [75:47] that boy go. And so probably the whole [75:50] journey he's probably thinking, "How am [75:52] I going to spin this one?" And he gets [75:55] there and he's like, "Dad, we we we we [75:58] have to bring Benjamin." The the [75:59] Pharaoh's second in command says it. It [76:01] says in verse 22, "Ruben replied to the [76:04] brothers." The old hindsight is 2020. [76:08] Didn't I tell you not to sin against the [76:10] boy? But you wouldn't listen. Now we [76:12] must give an account for his blood. [76:15] Reuben's He's on him now. He's like, [76:17] "Guys, I told you back in those days, [76:19] don't kill him. Don't hurt him, but you [76:22] did it anyway. It's all your fault." [76:23] That's what the journey was about. I [76:25] like to think the whole journey was [76:27] about whose fault was it. [76:31] Now, after making these guarantees, [76:34] Reuben comes back to to Jacob and he [76:36] says, "We need Benjamin. [76:39] He won't give us food without Benjamin." [76:41] And finally, they talk the dad into [76:43] letting Benjamin go with him on their [76:46] second trip. So, Joseph's plan, Joseph's [76:48] setup is working really well. He's going [76:51] to get to see his brother Benjamin. Look [76:52] what it says. The next chapter, Genesis [76:54] 43, verse 16. Follow with me here. When [76:58] Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said [77:01] to the steward of the house, "Take these [77:03] men to my house, slaughter an animal, [77:06] and prepare a meal. [77:08] They are to eat with me at noon." [77:13] So, he recognizes the brothers again. [77:16] They still don't recognize him. He sees [77:17] his baby brother Benjamin this time, and [77:19] he says, "Finally, I get to see my [77:20] brother. Now that you've come, [77:24] go take him to a special meal." And of [77:26] course, we're getting to the concept of [77:27] the covenant meal, right? The covenant [77:29] table. He says, "Go prepare for this [77:31] special meal." At the same time, he gets [77:34] Simeon out of jail. You say, "Wait, [77:36] whoa, whoa. Little curveball there. [77:38] Little twist. Why was Simeon in jail?" [77:41] Well, first of all, we'll come back to [77:43] Simeon in a little while, but when the [77:44] brothers come with Benjamin to the meal, [77:47] Joseph says, "Go get Simeon and release [77:49] him. Let him come." That means Simeon [77:51] had been in jail in Egypt the whole time [77:54] the brothers went and got Benjamin [77:57] and Jacob. That's part of the father's [77:59] argument. I've already lost one son and [78:01] animal killed him. You've got one son [78:03] caught up in prison. I'm not letting you [78:04] have Benjamin. Like he's just starting [78:06] to tick off all the boys. You can see [78:08] why the dad was so anxious about this. [78:11] We'll get to Simeon a little bit later [78:13] because the Lord gave me some new [78:14] revelation on Simeon that I'd never seen [78:16] before this week. [78:18] But stay in Genesis 43 with me. Let's [78:21] continue to understand the story. Verse [78:23] 25 and 26 about this covenant table. It [78:26] says, "They prepared their gifts for [78:28] Joseph's arrival at noon because they [78:31] had heard that they were to eat there. [78:33] And when Joseph came home, they [78:35] presented to him the gifts that they had [78:36] brought into the house. And they bowed [78:38] down before him to the ground." And [78:42] right then the dream came true. [78:46] Right? It was it was while they were [78:48] bowing down, Joseph, who remembers the [78:51] own dreams, said, "Yeah, this is the [78:53] stalk and the and the moon and the stars [78:56] bowing down to me right now." [78:58] God's validation. [79:01] I'm sure later in the meal once [79:04] everybody knew who everybody was, he [79:05] probably reminded I would have [79:10] I, you know, my flesh would have been [79:11] like, "Hey guys, let's go back a few [79:13] years. Remember what made you so mad? [79:16] Remember when you on the ground? Yeah. [79:18] Today, you know what? Let's practice [79:19] that again. Why don't we go back down? [79:21] Let's practice that again. Because there [79:23] were two different dreams, you know. So, [79:24] let's have one bow down session for the [79:26] stalks. Let's have a whole another bow [79:28] down session for the stars. [79:31] That's my flesh coming out. [79:34] Now, [79:35] why is Benjamin so important in this [79:38] story? And why is Benjamin so important [79:40] to Joseph? Well, let's read Genesis 43. [79:44] Look at verse 29. I'm going to read [79:45] several verses here. [79:48] It says, "As he looked about and saw his [79:49] brother Benjamin, his own mother's son, [79:53] he asked, "Is this your youngest [79:55] brother, the one you told me about? And [79:57] he said, God be gracious to you, my [79:59] son." Deeply moved at the sight of his [80:01] brother. Joseph hurried out and looked [80:03] for a place to weep and cry, he went [80:06] into a private room, and he wept there. [80:08] And after he had washed his face, he [80:09] came out and controlling himself, he [80:11] said, "Serve the food." They served him [80:13] by himself, the brothers by themselves, [80:16] and the Egyptians who ate with them by [80:18] themselves, because Egyptians could not [80:20] eat with Hebrews, for that is detestable [80:22] to Egyptians. [80:25] The men had been seated before him in [80:27] the order of their ages, from the [80:29] firstborn to the youngest, and they [80:31] looked at each other in astonishment. [80:33] When portions were served to them from [80:35] Joseph's table, Benjamin's portion was [80:38] five times as much as everyone else's. [80:40] So they feasted and drank freely with [80:42] him at this covenant table, at this [80:44] covenant meal. Couple of things I don't [80:46] want you to to miss. They were seated in [80:48] the order of their ages. How would they [80:50] know that except that Joseph had already [80:53] told the servants where to put them? And [80:56] yet the brothers don't clue into it yet. [80:58] You know, they they they weren't really [81:00] sensitive to what was going on. How did [81:03] Joseph know to go get the younger [81:05] brother? They didn't pick up on it. How [81:07] did Joseph know to put him in order of [81:09] ages? They didn't pick up on it. [81:13] They didn't recognize his face. They [81:14] didn't pick up on it. As people of God, [81:17] we should be alert. What is the spirit [81:20] saying? What is the symbolism? What are [81:21] we supposed to be picking up in the [81:24] spirit? Don't get so so preoccupied with [81:27] all of those daily problems because [81:28] there's an eternal kingdom that's bigger [81:30] than that. [81:32] They didn't see it. It was it was [81:33] blinded in their eyes. [81:36] But great favor is shown to Benjamin. I [81:39] like to think Benjamin had my kind of [81:41] appetite. [81:43] He got served five times as much. [81:46] That is how it works in my house, by the [81:48] way. [81:51] You know, we had a great Shabbat meal. [81:53] My wife made some meat, some potatoes, [81:55] green beans, and homemade kala. And and [81:58] and and we're diving it up and and and [82:01] the kids are eating and and uh one of [82:04] the kids says, "Can I can I get [82:06] seconds?" And I love my wife so much. [82:09] She says, 'Yeah, you can have some, but [82:11] make sure you leave enough for your dad [82:14] because he's going to want more tonight [82:15] and tomorrow. [82:18] And I was like, I'm like Benjamin. I get [82:20] it. Five times as much. Praise the Lord. [82:25] But what I want to bring out to you [82:26] tonight, now that I've laid all that [82:28] story, I want to bring out to you the [82:30] significance of each person, each player [82:33] in this story. [82:37] The brothers [82:39] represent all of the believers from the [82:43] nations, every tribe, every tongue. They [82:45] are the nations in this story. [82:48] How do we know that? Well, there's 10 of [82:50] them. It'll make a lot of sense here in [82:52] a minute. We know that Joseph in this [82:56] story is the savior, right? He's the [82:58] symbolic savior of the story. He's not [83:00] Yeshua. He's symbolic of Yeshua because [83:03] his brothers needed him to save them. [83:08] And they looked him in the face and they [83:10] didn't recognize him. [83:14] And Joseph is the one that's going to be [83:16] used by God to bring salvation to the [83:18] Jewish people. Joseph symbolizes Yeshua [83:22] in this story. The brothers, the 10 of [83:24] them, symbolize the nations from every [83:26] tribe and tongue. Benjamin represents [83:29] Israel and the Jewish people, the people [83:31] of the covenant. Why? Because Benjamin [83:34] and Joseph are of the same mother. [83:39] They are Jewish [83:41] by that connect point. [83:44] It was important that we catch that that [83:47] Yeshua is Jewish. [83:51] born in Israel, born from the Jewish [83:52] line, the tribe of Judah, born in [83:55] Bethlehem, [83:56] worshiped in the synagogues and in the [83:58] temples, obeyed every law in the law of [84:01] Moses because he wrote it. [84:05] Joseph is Yeshua. Benjamin is Israel. [84:07] The Jewish people, the 10 brothers are [84:10] representative of the nations here. [84:16] Joseph and Benjamin, [84:20] because they share this uniqueness, [84:24] Joseph shows a unique favor on Benjamin [84:30] that God shows to Israel. [84:38] Benjamin is also protected in a special [84:42] way that no one else is. By whom? By [84:46] Jacob the father. [84:49] In this story, Jacob is God the father. [84:53] He's protecting Benjamin in a special [84:55] way. Benjamin is Israel. He's protecting [84:57] Benjamin in a special way. Look at this [85:00] from Deuteronomy [85:02] chapter 33. Verse [85:05] 28. So Israel will live in safety. Jacob [85:08] will dwell secure in a land of grain and [85:11] new wine where the heavens drop dew. [85:13] Blessed are you Israel who is like you, [85:15] a people saved by the Lord. He is your [85:18] shield and your helper and your glorious [85:20] sword. Your enemies will cower before [85:22] you and you will tread on their heights. [85:26] There's no other nation that God writes [85:27] about like that. [85:30] He only writes about Benjamin like that. [85:32] Benjamin, Israel in this story. Remember [85:37] I taught you several weeks ago that [85:39] though God is a a covenant-making God, [85:41] he makes covenant with lots of [85:42] individuals, but the only nation he ever [85:44] made covenant with was Israel. [85:49] And so in this story, Jacob the father [85:51] protects Benjamin in a unique way from [85:54] the other brothers because Benjamin is [85:55] Israel. He's protecting him. [85:59] But Benjamin is related to Joseph by [86:02] that same mother. That Jewish family [86:04] connection between people of Israel and [86:07] the Jewish Messiah Yeshua. [86:11] Everybody has a role in this story. I [86:15] want you to understand that. It makes a [86:16] lot more sense now too when you read [86:18] Zechariah that the 10 brothers represent [86:21] the nations that come. [86:23] Zechariah chapter 8:22. [86:27] And many peoples and powerful nations [86:29] will come to Jerusalem to seek the Lord [86:31] Almighty and to entreat him. This is [86:33] what the Lord Almighty says. In those [86:35] days, 10 people from all languages and [86:38] nations will take firm hold of one Jew [86:41] by the hem of his robe and say, "Let us [86:42] go with you because we have heard that [86:44] God is with you." [86:47] 10 people from the nations, that's the [86:49] brothers, [86:50] need to go and get what they need from [86:55] Joseph. [86:57] It's a clear symbolic connection between [87:00] these numbers. [87:02] It doesn't mean the brothers are not [87:04] Jews. Of course, they're Jews. It [87:05] doesn't mean doesn't mean the brothers [87:07] don't end up being the tribal leaders. [87:08] Of course, they do. I'm talking about [87:09] the symbolism and the numbers in the [87:11] story. [87:12] Joseph is Yeshua. Benjamin is Israel. [87:14] The brothers are the nations. Jacob is [87:16] the father. [87:19] Let me give you the key phrase of [87:20] tonight. [87:22] The 10 brothers, the Gentiles, needed [87:26] Benjamin, the Jew, the Jewish people, in [87:29] order to connect to Joseph, Yeshua. [87:35] Ah, the brothers needed Benjamin, [87:38] otherwise they weren't allowed to go see [87:40] Joseph. The Gentile nations need the [87:43] Jewish people. That's their calling. the [87:45] calling of the priestly nation to invite [87:48] other nations into the salvation plan of [87:52] God. The 10 brothers needed Benjamin so [87:54] they could go see Joseph the same way [87:56] the nations today need Israel to [87:59] function in their priestly role so that [88:01] we can bring them to Yeshua. [88:04] I hope you see it. I hope you see the [88:06] players in the story. [88:10] Now, I promised you earlier I would come [88:12] back and I'd circle back and talk about [88:14] Simeon for a second. So, let me do that [88:15] right now. [88:17] Genesis 42 [88:19] verse 23. [88:23] Remember, they did not realize that [88:25] Joseph could understand them since he [88:27] was using an interpreter. [88:29] He's sneaky. [88:31] He turned away from them and began to [88:33] weep, but then came back and spoke to [88:36] them. He had Simeon taken from them and [88:39] bound before their eyes. Remember, this [88:42] is after the first trip to Egypt. [88:47] He plays the setup. You're spies. No, [88:49] we're not. Go get your brother. No food [88:52] unless you get your brother. Right? It's [88:53] this whole deal. He gives them some [88:55] food. And then he puts the the silver in [88:58] their bag so that he knows he has [88:59] blackmail on him. Right? The whole [89:01] setup. [89:02] And he says, "And and and for [89:04] collateral, I'm going to keep one of the [89:06] brothers. I'm going to keep Simeon." [89:10] And you think, well, nothing in this [89:13] story is random. I'm pretty sure Simeon [89:16] has a meaning here, if you're with me. [89:20] He binds Simeon right in front of all of [89:22] them before they leave to go get [89:23] Benjamin. He takes Simeon. He puts him [89:25] in jail. [89:26] So, that's where we are in this moment. [89:29] Simeon is now in jail. So, who is [89:31] Simeon? And why did Joseph feel like [89:34] that was what needed to be done? Well, [89:37] let's remember Simeon was the second [89:40] oldest son. So, if you go from top to [89:42] bottom, remember he sat him he sat him [89:44] in order of ages. He knows them all. [89:46] Reuben is first, Simeon is second. [89:48] Simeon is the second oldest. [89:52] Simeon had also been involved in the [89:54] killing of the men of Shechum against [89:57] his father's instructions. He has a [89:59] history of violence is what the Bible [90:02] tells us. [90:04] But you know, Levi did that with him. It [90:06] wasn't Simeon alone at Shechum. He was [90:09] Levi was also involved. So maybe the [90:11] answer is not only because he was [90:13] violent. Maybe there's something else. [90:16] But you know, when the brothers were [90:17] discussing killing Joseph, Reuben is the [90:20] one that stepped in and said, "Don't [90:22] kill him." [90:24] And that provides Reuben with an alibi. [90:26] He's not guilty. We know it's not [90:28] Joseph. Joseph is Joseph. It's not [90:30] Benjamin. He's still a baby. It's not [90:32] Reuben. Reuben said, "Don't kill him." [90:36] And do you know later in the story when [90:38] they say, "Throw him in the pit." It was [90:40] Judah who said, "Don't kill him in the [90:42] pit. Don't let him die there. [90:45] Maybe we sell him as a slave, but don't [90:47] let him die." So now Judah has an alibi. [90:49] He's not guilty of it. [90:52] And you start to check them off like, [90:54] "Who did this? Who is the one [90:56] instigating? Who is the one so angry? [90:58] Who is the one wanting Joseph dead more [91:00] than the others? [91:05] Well, Simeon had a lot of influence [91:07] as that second oldest and had this [91:10] history of violence. You know, in Jewish [91:12] tradition, they say that it was Simeon [91:15] who initiated the idea of killing [91:17] Joseph. [91:20] Genesis 37:18, by the way, it says, "But [91:23] they saw him in a distance, and before [91:25] he reached them, that's Joseph coming to [91:26] the brothers. Before Joseph reached [91:29] them, they plotted to kill him. Here [91:32] comes the dreamer, they said to each [91:34] other. And you might want to say, I'm [91:37] pretty sure they didn't all say it in a [91:38] a a perfect harmony unison all at the [91:42] same time, right? [91:44] They didn't break out into a a perfect [91:46] harmonic song. Here comes the dreamer. [91:51] You sing the harmony. You sing the third [91:53] part. No, somebody had to say it first. [91:56] And do you know Midashik writings from [92:00] Jewish history [92:02] are pretty unanimous that the first [92:04] voice was Simeon. [92:07] And that may be why Joseph said, [92:11] "I know it was you. [92:13] I heard, you know, I heard you and [92:15] because you don't know who I am, I can [92:18] hear you now. I'm using an interpreter. [92:20] I don't need the interpreter, but I can [92:21] understand you." [92:24] when they came to him. [92:28] Interestingly enough, Simeon's name [92:31] Shimon, [92:33] God has heard. [92:36] You know, [music] and whether you want [92:38] to think it's Joseph saying, "I heard [92:39] you," [92:41] or whether you want to think it's God [92:43] saying to Joseph, "I heard you [92:46] in the [music] dungeon." [92:48] Either either one of those ways can work [92:50] fine. But here's the main point. What's [92:53] the main point? [92:56] The main point is that Simeon had great [92:59] influence on the brothers in a negative [93:01] way. [93:03] And Joseph [music] said, "In order to [93:05] convince Jacob to let Benjamin come see [93:09] me, I have to get Simeon, the negative [93:11] influence, out of the way. So, Simeon, [93:14] you go to jail." [93:17] And when I was waiting on the Lord for [93:19] this, I thought, "Oh, Lord, there's [93:20] something there. I can feel it. [93:23] And I felt like the Lord gave me this [93:24] word [93:27] that [93:29] Simeon is representing [93:32] bad theology [93:34] and anti-semitic theology in the church. [93:39] It's it's it's the influence that [93:42] negative influence on the church that's [93:44] going to derail the whole process of the [93:46] Jewish people coming to faith and [93:51] thereby bringing all the brothers to [93:53] Joseph [93:55] because of that negative influence that [93:57] errant theology that anti-semitic [93:59] theology that we see in the world today. [94:04] And it's if you're awake at all, you're [94:07] you're seeing it all over the world now. [94:12] It's not just bad theology in the [94:14] churches. It's [music] it's it's in the [94:15] mainstream now. And no matter what the [94:18] Jews do or don't do, what the government [94:21] chooses to do, not to do, open the [94:23] border, close the border, fire back, [94:25] don't fire back, it doesn't matter what [94:27] they do. [94:29] that demonic spirit of anti-semitism, [94:32] that negative influence like Simeon is [94:35] trying to influence the process of [94:37] salvation. [94:38] And it is up to the Lord Yeshua to put [94:41] that in jail, just like it was up to [94:44] Joseph to put it in jail and say, [94:46] "You're not going to influence this [94:47] process." [94:50] Interestingly, before I came up here [94:52] during our worship service, one of our [94:54] prophetic members sent me this note, and [94:57] I thought I would just read it for just [94:58] a second because [95:00] we didn't know what it was connected to [95:02] in the beginning, but we certainly [95:04] understand it now. No matter what the [95:06] outcome of the current US, Iran, and [95:09] other negotiations are during this war, [95:13] we know that Israel and the Jews will be [95:15] blamed. [95:17] We need to be prepared in prayer for [95:19] increased anti-semitism in the nations. [95:23] Being prepared for more and providing [95:25] for the Jewish people, encouraging all [95:27] of them to come home. [95:32] I believe that's a word of the Lord for [95:33] us tonight. [95:36] Let me conclude with this summary. [95:40] This covenant table, this meal of [95:42] Genesis 42 and 43 between Joseph and all [95:46] of his brothers was not only an [95:48] important reunion, but it was also full [95:51] circle redemption story orchestrated by [95:53] the Lord. Joseph was used to save his [95:57] own people and to ensure their salvation [96:00] and survival in a harsh time. However, [96:03] in the midst of the story, we also see [96:05] that God used this covenant table to [96:07] explain the relationship between [96:09] himself, the father Jacob, [96:12] the coming Messiah, Yeshua, Joseph, his [96:15] relationship to the Jewish people in [96:16] Israel, [96:18] Benjamin, and his relationship to the [96:20] nations and the one new man, the other [96:22] 10 brothers. [96:24] Everything that we needed to understand [96:26] in the new covenant age is explained in [96:28] the relationships of this story so that [96:30] all of it can be accomplished according [96:32] to God's plan, [96:35] including how God wants to deal with [96:38] anti-semitism in the world right now. [96:41] Would you stand with me? Let's pray. We [96:43] got to pray these things into action. [96:47] Lord, we love your word. [96:49] It's so rich. I'm so grateful that after [96:52] all of these years, 46 years being in [96:55] Yeshua, [96:57] it's still fresh every time I read it. [97:00] Thank you, Lord, for new revelation [97:01] going deeper into our heart. Let us see [97:04] these relationships [97:06] to not take this symbolism too far [97:08] beyond the boundaries of your intention, [97:10] but to understand what they mean. That [97:13] you're building toward the one new man. [97:15] that you have an incredible purpose for [97:17] the Jewish people [music] to help bring [97:18] world revival to usher in the nations [97:21] that they may see Joseph [97:24] Yeshua. [97:27] Father, let us be wise during these [97:31] times of rising anti-semitism in the [97:33] world, the unfortunate [97:36] misunderstanding of the role of Israel [97:37] in today's global churches. [97:40] Let us not stand in arrogance but [97:42] humility. [97:44] We choose to be your servants, God. We [97:47] want to celebrate [97:49] at the same level that these brothers [97:50] got to celebrate once they understood [97:54] the role of all the players [music] that [97:56] whatever the enemy meant for evil, you [97:59] turned it around and you used it for [98:01] good. And because you can do that, [98:04] Savior Yeshua, our Jewish Messiah, we [98:06] thank you today. [music] [98:08] We honor you. We bless you. We celebrate [98:11] you at this covenant table in Yeshua's [98:13] name. Amen. Amen. Listen, let's worship [98:16] and let's lift the name of the Lord high [98:18] before we close. [music] The worship [98:20] team's going to come and lead us. [98:23] Amen. Amen. Thank you, Chad. [98:26] We were just talking about it before we [98:28] got on stage, but just talking about the [98:31] confidence in the Lord and the rumors of [98:34] uh stuff getting hotter again. In [98:37] Hebrew, you say [music] hotter. What's [98:38] the word in English? getting hotter [98:40] again and just the different fears and I [98:43] was like is it getting hotter again? [98:44] It's like honestly I don't know. I [98:46] stopped following. I have a friend in [98:49] the at school that if he needs to go to [98:51] the army I'm like okay something's going [98:53] to happen this week but except for that [98:55] his name is but except for that I kind [98:59] of like stay out of it. But Chad is has [99:02] been saying again and again how the Lord [99:05] has us and how we can lean on him. And [99:08] we just want to declare it again [music] [99:09] and just declare that nothing can stop [99:12] the Lord. No fear. [99:15] And we just want to celebrate that and [99:18] declare that together. [music] [99:20] Amen. [99:21] Amen. [99:25] [music] [99:40] >> [music] [99:50] >> Praise the master. [music and singing] [99:52] This is the end. [99:55] Let praise be the weapon that conquers [99:57] [music] all anxieties. [singing]
[100:00] Let your eyes
[100:05] let praise. [music]
[100:09] We sing your name in the dark and
[100:12] changes everything.
[100:15] We sing [music] with all we are and
[100:17] bring your victory.
[100:20] >> [music]
[100:20] >> Let
[100:24] your crazy
[100:27] [music]
[100:31] [singing]
[100:37] [music]
[100:38] when we
[100:41] got
[100:42] on our
[100:45] Heat. Heat. [music and singing]
[100:52] [music]
[101:00] >> [music]
[101:03] >> The song that [music] overcomes the
[101:06] right
[101:09] [singing] song that calms the storm
[101:11] inside of me.
[101:13] Let [music] it rise. [singing]
[101:20] Yeah.
[101:23] Heat.
[101:28] [music and singing]
[101:33] Yeah. Heat.
[101:36] [music and singing]
[101:47] >> [music]
[101:56] >> This [music] is what living looks like.
[101:59] This is what freedom feels like. This is
[102:02] what heaven [music] sounds like. We
[102:04] praise you. We praise you. This is what
[102:08] [music] living looks like. This is
[102:10] [singing] what freedom feels like. This
[102:13] is what heaven sounds like. We [music]
[102:16] praise you. We praise you. This is what
[102:23] feels [music] like.
[102:26] Sounds like we praise you. We praise
[102:29] you.
[102:32] [music]
[102:38] We praise you. We pray [music]
[102:43] everyone.
[102:50] [music and singing]
[102:59] [music]
[103:01] [singing]
[103:06] Oh,
[103:09] [music]
[103:10] heat, heat.
[103:15] [music]
[103:20] Heat.
[103:24] [music]
[103:32] Heat.
[103:34] [music]
[103:45] >> [music]
[103:47] >> We praise you.
[103:51] [music]
[103:57] Amen. Thank you guys. Thank you.
[104:01] As pastor [clears throat] said, Joseph
[104:02] went from the pit to [music] the palace
[104:05] and Yeshua went from the hay to heaven.
[104:08] Um, and just as Joseph remained hidden
[104:11] until the [music] time of redemption for
[104:13] his family, John 1 tells us Yeshua was
[104:16] in the world and he and the world was
[104:18] made through him. Yet the world did not
[104:20] know him. He came to his own and his own
[104:24] people did not receive him. But to all
[104:26] who receive him, who believed in his
[104:28] name, he gave the [music] right to
[104:30] become the children of God.
[104:34] There are more parallels in the story of
[104:36] Joseph as Pastor Chad was alluding to.
[104:39] Uh so I encourage you to go this week
[104:41] dig more into the symbolism symbolisms
[104:43] of Joseph and Yeshua and the covenant
[104:45] table that Pastor Chad was sharing with
[104:47] us tonight. Let us pray.
[104:50] God, we thank you for
[104:53] the life of Yeshua, Lord, for coming uh
[104:56] as a baby to the hay into a barn and
[104:59] Lord, waiting
[105:01] um living among us until the time of
[105:03] redemption was was at hand. Thank you
[105:06] for that, God. I pray that you would
[105:07] give us the courage to share what you
[105:10] have for us, words that you give us,
[105:12] Lord, for uh the congregation, for our
[105:14] friends, our family. Lord, give us uh
[105:16] boldness to share those at the right
[105:18] time. [music] Lord, help us to seek you
[105:20] this week to listen to you. Not just
[105:23] always talk to you, but to listen, to
[105:25] take time to be still and quiet [music]
[105:27] and hear the words that you have for us.
[105:29] God, give us courage over fear this
[105:31] week.
[105:32] Um, with all that's in the news and
[105:34] going on, Lord, just give us courage.
[105:35] Help us not to be anxious, but to trust
[105:38] you for today and for tomorrow.
[105:41] We love you, Yeshua
[105:45] Yeshua. Amen.
[105:49] If you need prayer tonight, the uh
[105:51] deeper connections will be open in the
[105:53] lobby. Uh you can go up there and sign
[105:55] up for extra time of private prayer.
[105:59] Uh the summit will not be open tonight.
[106:02] Uh but as I said, deeper connections is
[106:04] there. And then remember, [music]
[106:05] tomorrow morning 9:00 a.m. uh is the
[106:09] Super Bowl watch party. So, we will have
[106:12] coffee and tea,
[106:14] but be sure to bring breakfast or as pas
[106:17] pastor Chad said, if you want to fast,
[106:18] feel free to do that, too. But bring
[106:20] food to share. Um, and remember, no one
[106:24] text pastor Chad anything. Any news of
[106:27] who won, who didn't win, nothing.
[106:29] [music] Don't say anything when you
[106:30] come. You might be, you know, I don't
[106:33] know, have to give an extra tithe or
[106:34] something if you tell them who's who won
[106:35] the game. We'll see. But so remember,
[106:38] don't tell anyone who won the game until
[106:40] after the game is over. And I think
[106:42] that's all we have for tonight. So,
[106:44] Shvu, have a great week.
